The best perimeter defender will always take wiggs because our other wings are all non threats.

When wiggs is given the ball to facilitate like he does in the oklahoma game, he gets engaged and it also forces the opposing player to work that much harder to defend him.

When wiggs is used as the floor spacer, hes often hovering around the 3 pt line waiting for kick out which he will then shoot it or take a couple of dribbles to take a long 2. This also gives the opposing defender to kind of lay back and play 2 while conserving energy.

I dont think its as much about the position as it is his role in the offense.

I think playing him as the spot up guy was a bad idea and basically feeds his nature to ball watch. Flip figured out. Smitch figured it out. Thibs was kind of figuring it out, then the jimmy trade happened. And that basically sums up his last 2 years.

Which is what I said and then you tried to pull out a specific game/lineup to discredit me that you happened to be wrong about. Teams are not scared to put smaller guys on Covington because he has very little face up or post up offense, he is a catch and shoot guy, which is a threat every team needs but is easier to defend then a guy that can go get his own shot.

Thanks for attributing something to me that I didn't say. Yes I was wrong about who was guarding Wiggins, my bad. Sorry I'm not 100% perfect on all of my facts like you apparently are.

Klomp wrote:It's a combination of a height advantage and a strength advantage. And that's why you'll rarely see smaller SGs guarding Covington (not counting switches).

In the Dec 23 game Wiggins scored 30, when OKC had Westbrook and Schroder lineups, they didn't have one of them guarding Covington. They were guarding Wiggins.

.....

It’s ok I don’t claim to be some sort of basketball God but if you are going to try to fact check me I’m going to come right back

The Pelicans put E’twaun Moore on Covington the Bulls used Arcidiacono and LaVine on him and the list goes on. Teams are not scared to put smaller guys in him, which is on reason I like the RoCo at stretch 4 idea. It’ll be harder for teams to put small perimeter guys on him cuz that’ll leave their 4 on Wiggins or Culver who would then be able to get to the hole at will so they leave their 4 on RoCo who then draws them out of the paint with his high level 3pt shooting which opens the middle for KAT to go to work.

I think there are a lot of things we agree on; it doesn’t necessarily matter what position Andrew is playing it is more important that we play to his strengths rather than stick him in the corner like Thibs did. I really wish we could’ve gotten D-Lo, having another legit 3pt shooter would’ve really helped make space for Wiggs rather than Teague who is so reluctant to shoot the ball and Culver who is still a question mark from deep.

Its sad, but this is the first offseason hes actually training with nba players and playing rather than just doing solo drills.

One of Wiggins big issues with ball handling is going from point A to point B ... He typically has sucombed to the phyicallity and ends up A to C and then partially back to B for a tough shot. 50% of his dribble is wasted when giving way to the defenders ... he must learn to step/roll/ through resistance rather than take the detour.

When you watch video of even Culver (yes not NBA), he is more natural using his body to continue to stay oncourse A to B and finish. Very little wasted dribble once he sets course.

Wiggins then has to develop some moves under the basket. He rarely posts up equal or smaller defenders because he dont have an array of moves (fakes, hook, down/unders, etc) that come all that natural either.

1 layup attempt in 5 minutes against Lyles and Rivers. I suppose he is trying to be the next Reggie Miller otherwise is uninspiring.

I like that he looks to be trying to get better, but watching him do all that dribbling to get nowhere is frustrating. Watching Austin Rivers and Seth Curry use less dribbles to get to the rim just by making quick decisions and then watching Wiggins make 4 or more dribbles into a mid range shot in 2 on 2 is just disappointing.

As long as he is keeping the fro, he has a chance to be good. He goes back to the cornrows, he's doomed.

I thought the same. In real game he will need to keep it simple, going full contact against Curry or Rivers like players and/or shooting 3s over them.

Yes that's it. Wiggins does all the dribbling but he's not continuing forward. Loses all momentum to the defender and then must pull away to shoot. Now, maybe by year ten he will be so good at faking out the defender he will look like Harden at the 3. Maybe that's his goal. But who wants to pay him 100+ million long before he reaches greatness at that one thing? Not me. Someone has to get him to go to the Rim. Let everyone know you are a threat to do that repeatedly and later the space for a shot will come from a single twitch.

Wiggs would get at least one dunk a game because of rubio alone. Ricky would hit him on cuts, transition, or lobs. Teague does none of those. teague is a poor lob thrower and post entry passer. Couple teague being his pg and wiggs new role as the floor spacer for KAT and jimmy; you have less dunks. Plus his new role allowed an already passive player to become more passive.

That is all so bleeping true. Especially the last sentence.

He’s not passive in OKC, if he gets traded there he will be good in their home games at least lol

His handles seem better, I think it is obvious, and he seems smoother. He uses some quick nice moves in order to make space and shoot.
I agree that additionally he needs to work some crossover dribbling moves in order to move forward and drive to the rim.
But I think he works in the right direction this summer. He has 2 more months to work his dribling and step up one more level

Wiggs getting some training done in LA being guarded by Ben Simmons..Is this the most footage we've seen him of him off season training in his career?

Some sad news today. In that most recent Wiggins clip, Wiggins has gone back to the cornrows. RIP to his game this season.

Wiggins seems to work in a very good direction with Chris Johnson.
Sky is the limit for him if he works. I will wait the start of the new season but the videos are impressive especially the last one
