I hate to rain on the Bradley Beal talk.......but we no longer have the most chips at the table. New Orleans and OKC have more trade chips than us now. Feels weird.

Don't underestimate the persuasive (or dissuasive in this case) power of the player nowadays. "I will only re-sign in Boston. Trade your assets at your own risk. But you're getting me as a rental."

Okay, my bad then. But he said this at the time of uncertainty with the roster composition -- Kyrie, Rozier, Al, and Mook may or may not be coming back. He likely knew Kyrie was gone. And Rozier too. Without Kemba in the fold. So he's likely slotted as the starting PG at that point. You don't think his mindset will be different with Kemba now on the team?

That doesn't mean jack up more shots from 3. It means not always passing up the ball when he's wide open, driving it in instead.

He also said he wants to maintain his 3% and even improve it from last year, not shoot more of them.

Marcus took a very important step last year. Before 2018-2019 it looked like he was going to top out as a 6th man. Excellent defense but horrible shot selection. He improved his shot selection and became less of a chucker at 3 point line. Wonderful development for sure.

I believe it was both shot selection and a more consistent, decent shooting form that Smart brought to his game last year. For better or worse, he now has said that he wants to be more aggressive in his shooting next season.

I'm certain it was more the latter that led to his career year shooting, not the former.

From 2014-2017, 48.2% of Smart's FGA were 3s. Last season, 61.0% of his FGA were 3s. Meanwhile he took fewer shots last season from every other distance, including at the rim (only 17.3% from 0-3). And he got to the FT line less than he ever has in his career. His shot selection was different, but unless you get granular and look at pull ups vs catches, or side of the floor or something, you can't tell me it was really much better. He's taking more 3s and more jump shots, and attempting fewer drives and layups.

Meanwhile, his shooting percentage improved from every distance. Best finishing rate at the rim of his career, best percentage on mid range shots of his career, best percentage on 3s of his career. That's the real difference in the numbers, not which shots he took.

Smart took a greater than ever % of his shots from the 3 last year, at 61% (after being in the 40's the three previous seasons). He also had his highest % year from the 3 in shooting, as well as his highest % of 3's being corner 3's. He also shot his lowest or tied-lowest percent of his shots in his career from each of the mid-range distances (3-10, 10-16, 16-<3). And yes, he finished better at the basket. It really was a combination of shooting and shot selection. Oh, and also lower usage, as he was the lowest on that in his career last year as well.

Yup, as we are over the cap and under the tax, this move does nothing but cost money. And little of it. If they make the team, good, they get money. If they don't make the team, good, they make money. Gives future free agents to chose us when undrafted. I'm sure Tacko will probably sign one of these.

Can we put him back on a 2-way after getting a partially guaranteed "real" contract (Tacko)? That would be my only hesitation in offering him anything more. If not, at that point it's roster spot or being cut.

Not holding my breath. He took 7 shots a game last year 4.3 threes..That's what he does. Even better he took 11 shots in the playoffs...11 freaking threes.. That not a typo.
