2019-2020 Depth Chart

Post#1 » by GreekAlex » Sat Jul 6, 2019 11:31 pm

PG: Reggie Jackson (20) Derrick Rose (26) Tim Frazier (2)

SG: Luke Kennard (24) Bruce Brown (8) Reggie Jackson (6) Kyrie Thomas (10) Langston Galloway

SF: Tony Snell (24) Bruce Brown (16) Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (8)

PF: Blake Griffin (33) Markieff Morris (15) Sekou Doumbouya

C: Andre Drummond (33) Markeiff Morris (10) Thon Maker (5)

Looks like the roster is almost complete with 14 players. Here's how I'd project the minute distribution.

Personally I'm excited to see how coach Casey utilizes all the new players in his rotations.

Quick observations:

-I don't see too many minutes for Thon or Langston (it would be great to package them in a 2 for 1 trade)
-I wonder if Reggie and D-Rose will see many minutes togeter
-I'm not sure where they will find minutes for Sekou ( I"d like to see Markieff get 25 minutes total backing up the 4/5)

Minutes:
Blake Griffin (33)
Andre Drummond (33)
Reggie Jackson (26)
Derrick Rose (26)
Markieff Morris (25)
Tony Snell (24)
Luke Kennard (24)
Bruce Brown (24)
Kyrie Thomas (10)
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (8)
Thon Maker (5)
Tim Frazier (2)
Langston Galloway (Spot Minutes)
Sekou Doumbouya (Spot Minutes)

It's amusing that Bruce Brown is constantly thought of as a shooting guard. Bruce cant shoot. Svi and Kyri are better shooters

Bruce is a SG, because that is the name of the position he plays. Lebron James is a small forward, but he's not actually "small."

If you're so compelled, simply call Bruce a wing.

I hope Morris will give Blake more of a break than Andre. Especially, in some games where Blake can play under 30. I still see Brown starting for his defense with Kennard off bench in sixth man role with Luke getting more minutes overall. I wouldn't be surprised in some games depending on opponents lineups to see Blake slide to SF with Keif and Drummond. Lot more flexability with our bench this upcoming season. I am interested to see how Thon and Kieff play together.

Brown got 20 mpg last year and that dropped some towards the end of the year.

He won’t be seeing improved minutes unless his shot improves.

Its not going to happen, but I would be pretty happy to see both Snell and Galloway not included in the rotation.

As much as I’d like to see a front court trio of Blake, Kieff & Andre, I can’t imagine too many wings that I’d like to see Blake try to guard.

I’m not really sure that I’d be interested to see Kieff & Thon play together. Mostly because I don’t really want to see Thon play period. He’s a good energy guy in short bursts but he generally looks out of control and there’s nothing that he does better than Kieff.

I only have him at 24 because the team is even more thin at SF this season than last.

I guess his minutes are dependent on if anyone steps up to fill that hole but barring a trade, I definitely see him hovering around the 20-24 minute mark.

Looking over the roster, Snell has by far the best combination of 3, D & length.

Is there a reason you don’t want him in the rotation?

Based on his skill & experience, he appears to be the clear cut starter. I can definitely see him excelling in the Reggie Bullock role.

Because, Tony Snell is not good. People look at his raw 3pt % and say ooo, we can work with this. But, they won't realize that A) He's not nearly a high enough volume shooter for it to be an impressive stat, and B) The amount of open looks defenses invited him to take were numerous. Snell had a ton of talent around him.

Also, Snells's advanced #'s are bad. 97% of his career made 3 pointers were assisted by others, 60% of all of his career field goals were assisted. Snell is a career 31% shooting from 3-10 feet, 41% from 10-16 feet, and 38% from 16 feet to the 3 point line. He averages a total of .6 free throw attempts per game for his career. He's the epitome of a camp out beyond the 3 point line and ball watch, spot up shooter.

Bruce Brown actually has a better defensive +/- than Snell, and Brown had a 1.5 defensive win shares to Snell's 1.6. Snell's defense is getting over-rated.

I see no benefit to giving a lot of minutes to Snell. The team is much better off giving those minutes to help develop Sekou/Brown/Khyri/Kennard/Svi. Every minute Snell plays is taking one away from one of those guys.

Snell is a solid role player, but right now the wings are fully by committee until the competition sorts itself out, or more likely, the least bad player is chosen. I know so many dislike Brown, but I like him with the ball in his hands making decisions. If he can aggressively pass and make some plays, even if he doens't have an outside shot, he'll be greatly improved.

If Brown is a shooting guy all the defenses going to do is lag off him and clog the middle. Then basically you have no outside shooters to open the floor our bigs. If brown cant find time as a PG his minutes should drop b/c this year we have shooters

I wouldn't be playing Blake & Reggie that much. Call it load management if you like but 30 or more for them isn't wise IMO

I see him getting 35 but sitting many more games than last year. No back to backs or 3games in 4nights for sure
