SPURS TO PLAY PHOENIX SUNS IN NBA’S 30th GAME IN MEXICO ON DECEMBER 14
Teams Will Face Off at Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City During The NBA Mexico City Games 2019
The San Antonio Spurs will take on the Phoenix Suns in Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico on Saturday, Dec. 14, marking the 30th time that two NBA teams have faced off in Mexico since the league began playing in the country in 1992. The NBA Mexico City Games 2019 will also feature a matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN Deportes, Televisa, and NBA League Pass in Mexico, and will reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories. The trip will also feature NBA Cares community outreach initiatives. Ticket sales information will be announced at a later date. Visit Spurs.com/Mexico for more information.

“It’s an honor for the Spurs organization to be able to represent South Texas and the NBA by once again playing in Mexico City,” said Spurs President of Sports Franchises R.C. Buford. “The relationship between our community and Mexico is important and impactful on many levels. We look forward to a wonderful experience and are excited to share Spurs basketball with all of our fans in Mexico.”

As San Antonio’s top international market, Mexico annually brings 2.1 million overnight visitors to the Alamo City. At 858 miles by car or two hours by plane, San Antonio is the closest NBA market to Mexico City.

The game against Phoenix will mark the sixth time the Spurs have played against an NBA team in Mexico, and the second time the Silver and Black have played a regular season game outside of the US or Canada (vs. Phoenix in in Mexico City in 2017). The Spurs have made 12 appearances outside of NBA countries in total, including six exhibitions against non-NBA opponents.

What a difference a year makes. With the benefit of hindsight, we did what was right even if difficult, and we had the foresight to know the freedom and integrity that would come with it.

Looks like there are some changes coming to the Spurs FO with RC being promoted to a higher position overseeing a broader range of responsibilities and assistant GM Brian Wright will be appointed GM, but still report to RC directly. We'll start a new thread once more details are revealed and an official announcement is made. No word on the timeline of all this occurring, but there once was a whole section on Spurs.com with bios from various executives that is no longer listed. I guess they're updating it.

Report: Spurs revamping front office
... longtime general manager R.C. Buford is moving up within the Spurs Sports & Entertainment hierarchy and will receive a new title.

Assistant GM Brian Wright, 37, will be promoted to GM and will report to Buford, the report stated.

Buford, 58, is a two-time winner of the NBA's executive of the year award, winning it first after the Spurs won their fifth league title in 2014 and then again in 2016 after he landed LaMarcus Aldridge in free agency and engineered several other key signings that allowed the club to record a franchise-best 67 wins.

Before joining the Spurs in 2016, Wright served as the Detroit Pistons assistant GM. Buford praised Wright on draft night in June after the Spurs landed a class that included first-round picks Luka Samanic and Keldon Johnson and second-rounder Quinndary Weatherspoon.

The Spurs named Buford their GM in summer 2002. The Spurs have won four championships while he's been in that post.

"The best way to put it would be to say we'd be lost without him," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after Buford was named Executive of the Year for the second time. "I think those few words say it all. His organizational abilities, his foresight, his ability to plan ahead of time and make judicious and wise decisions is off the charts. We would have had a hard time keeping this together for this long if he wasn't here."

https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/article/Report-Spurs-revamping-front-office-14110165.php

We've been losing a lot of talent to other teams even more so recently, and while that's a compliment and extends the Spurs coaching and executive trees, still, I'm very happy that we are retaining RC and he is getting a well deserved promotion. I don't really know much about Brian Wright, and other than news of his being hired in 2016, he's fit right in with the Spurs doing his work diligently and quietly in the background. He has been more involved in more recent deals, so he's been given greater responsibilities along the way. If PATFO trust him, that is a good start.

The article cites snake Young as the source who wrote that Spurs are making this move as a way of transitioning to the 'new NBA' whatever that means. I give snake Young not a scintilla of benefit of doubt who for over at least one year has been pumped info from player snake's group and wrote egregiously one-sided articles against PATFO, so I take this as a dig at the Spurs that RC - he who oversaw four of our five championships during his GM stewardship - is somehow the 'old' way of doing things. Past snake Young criticism that the Spurs were too old school, keeping things hidden close to the vest, operating 'like the CIA' were more self-serving whines that there was less access to a reporter who should not actually have such access than legitimate critique. A nickel says he tries to worm his way into Wright's good graces like he does with new and young players. But if Brian Wright has the trust of PATFO to do things the right way that have served us so exceptionally well through all the trials and tribulations, he'll see right through it.

I do wonder though to what extent BW's influence was on the Morris deal as on paper he did not fit the character we usually look for and in this case looked more at the on-court fit. I'm not blaming Wright, that was all on Morris, and we do have a uniquely collaborative front office dynamic. I guess the Morris debacle was a reminder to stay true to our character principles even when the on-court fit is so tempting. He reportedly didn't even want to play here, so I believe in the long run did us a favour by showing himself sooner rather than later.

Anyway, this news coincidentally comes on the three year anniversary of new of Brian Wright's hiring as assistant GM. He has a very good reputation and has worked his way up to this position. My only concern right now is his drafting ability, and while part of me wishes we could have kept Sean Marks , I feel good having RC's eye overseeing the roster, and the collaborative nature among BW, RC, and Pop and other FO and coaching voices who have ideas to share.

Spurs announce return of Sneaker Jam, tease guest player appearance
Spurs fans and sneaker fans have another event to celebrate both.

The third installment of the Spurs Sneaker Jam is coming to the AT&T Center on Sept. 15, the team announced Thursday. For $15, sneaker heads can spend the Sunday shopping the latest trends from Texas vendors.

While shoes are the event's headliner, there is plenty more to do and see from noon to 5 p.m. Guests will have access to an appearance by a Spurs player, a performance by San Antonio's Carlton Zeus, giveaways, exclusive photo opportunities with team memorabilia and other unique items and raffles, according to a news release.

The first 300 guests to arrive when doors open at noon will get a custom t-shirt commemorating the event.

The $15 admission price also includes a ticket to a regular season Spurs game.

Another busy off-season filled with drama, promotions, and roster additions meant Summer League play had some competition for the biggest event to draw fan attention. With the most momentous moves in place, focusing solely on games again will be a welcome respite. To that end, the pre-season schedule is now set and tickets are already on sale.

2019-2020 SCHEDULE:
Read on Twitter

Looking forward to seeing the strength of schedule breakdown, but at first glance that mid-to-late November stretch and Rodeo Road Trip especially are brutal. And end of November we go from LA to Detroit to home?? Dec. 19 - Brooklyn - Dec. 21 - LA?? Jesus.

Still looking through all our back-to-back games - three in the first 41 games but all by end of November, then the second half comprises of two on our Rodeo Road Trip, and two in the last week of the regular season. Wow.

The Spurs will be featured on national television five times: Nov. 22 at the Philadelphia 76ers on ESPN, Feb. 26 at home against the Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis-led Dallas Mavericks on ESPN, March 10 at home against the Mavericks on TNT, March 24 at the Utah Jazz on TNT, and April 8 at Houston on ESPN.

For the second year in a row, the Spurs will play a home game on Dec. 31. This year's New Year's Eve opponent will be the Golden State Warriors, who lost Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets in free agency but still have plenty of firepower in the form of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, although the knee injury Thompson suffered in the 2019 Finals against the Raptors could keep him sidelined until after the All-Star break.

The Spurs' rodeo road trip will feature nothing but Western Conference opponents.

The last part about the Rodeo Road Trip may sound daunting, but at least we don't have to travel east and deal with the cold while we're at it.

With 15 signed players plus two two-way players (Eubanks and Weatherspoon), we're filling out the camp roster and with these signings we're going to be at or close to the maximum 20 allowed.

Starting with the latest, the final Exhibit-10 offer was made to Austin Spurs guard Jeff Ledbetter:
Read on Twitter

No word yet on whether he's accepted our offer. From what I recall of Summer League, he wasn't the best defender, but knows our system, and can hit the 3.

Another Exhibit 10 deal was offered to and accepted by Kansas PF Dedric Lawson:
https://airalamo.com/2019/07/23/san-antonio-spurs-add-dedric-lawson-exhibit-10-deal/

And finally an Exhibit 10 deal was also accepted by F/PF Daulton Hommes:

So, we're trying to retain a known asset in Jeff, but also after drafting PF Luka, we've offered two Exhibit-10 deals to two other PFs. Interesting.

It's official. Jeff has signed on:
Read on Twitter

Ledbetter has been part of the Spurs’ program since the 2016-17 season, when he first began playing in the G-League with the Austin Spurs.

Since the 2017-18 season, Ledbetter has also been part of the Spurs’ Summer League squads that have participated in Utah and Las Vegas.

Ledbetter, 31, went undrafted back in 2011 out of Idaho. Along with playing in the G-League, he’s played his professional basketball overseas too.

Last season in 19 games with Austin, he averaged 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. He’s known for his outside shooting, and over his G-League career, he’s done just that with a 39.5% career three point accuracy percentage.
