Re: 2019-2020 Depth Chart
Obviously minutes allocation is a big thing for Blake. Piggybacking on that, one other key factor to load management for him is going to be the presence of Derek Rose. Rose can take some pressure off of Blake and reduce the need for him to facilitate and create everything. Not having to dominate the ball and always shoulder the offensive load, will help take some of the wear and tear off of Blake.
Of course that's contingent on Rose being able to stay on the floor himself, lol.

Kennard - 26
Snell - 24
Rose - 24
Doumbouya- 15
Morris - 15
Christian Wood/Maker - 10
I have a funny feeling Kennard comes off the bench too. I don’t see that as a positive. Additionally, I don’t see Seku getting any minutes unless the game is over. He’ll be human victory cigar 2.0 this year.

Reggie 24 - Rose 24
Luke 28 - Brown 20
Sekou 20 - Brown 8 - Svi 20
Blake 30 - Kieff 18
Dre 30 - Kieff 6 - Wood/Thon 10
Can't see it happening but that'd be mine with Snell & Galloway only picking up minutes when Sekou & Svi struggle.
Call it a developmental rotation

Re: 2019-2020 Depth Chart
Doumbouya is a PF. Hes 18 years old and if he gains weight will be a good size for the position these days.
He might be able to play SF now but Snell is the day one opener. Hes a vet and started plenty of games. Its his spot to lose.
Maybe Doumbouya explodes in training camp and looks like a young Lebron. If so he might start. Im not making that bet.
So Doumbouya is behind Blake our superstar and Markieff who is a fine player.
Doesnt look like a lot of minutes. Guys need to get traded by the deadline after some sorting happens.

markeiff is more than likely the backup 5. sekou will have time backing up Blake and a few mins at the 3

Re: 2019-2020 Depth Chart
Do the Pistons have to make the decision with Christian Wood & Michael Beasley after training camp and before preseason or can they wait all the way up till the regular season?

Re: 2019-2020 Depth Chart
Blake played 75 games averaging 35 min/game, which was way too many minutes and mainly because we had no competent backup PF. Now that we do, Blake better have his minutes capped at no more than 30 per game. If you play him just 5 min less per game over the course of 75 games, thats 375 minutes less per season, which is the equivalent of over 10 less games played per season. This needs to happen.

FWIW:
Michael Beasley:
Beasley passed up $2.6 million guaranteed in China to join Pistons. NBA veteran forward Michael Beasley signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons. Reportedly, the deal is guaranteed if Beasley is on the roster for the beginning of the regular season.
Christian Wood:
2019 non-guaranteed, $822,679 guaranteed if not waived on or before first reg season game (10/23/19)

Thanks for the info! I don’t mean to get too obsessed with the end of the bench but this is the first time that there’s some interesting playable options.

Re: 2019-2020 Depth Chart
I still think it could be Beasley vs Svi more so than Beasley vs Wood.
To get to the roster limit of 15 & get under the tax, I could also see the team trading Khyri Thomas to some team with a TPE for a protected future 2nd.

Yeah, I thought about this too. I really like Wood's potential and we need a legit backup C. Markieff is better at PF and Maker is..... not good. Svi is going to struggle hard to crack the rotation with Kennard, Galloway, Rose, Beasley, Sekou, Snell, and even Thomas probably ahead of him for SG and SF minutes.

I disagree. I think 35mpg is very normal and just fine for Griffin. The problem was we were pounding the ball into him non-stop for most of last season. When we switched to moving the ball around and playing Griffin off the ball a bit more it benefited everyone and I think that is how we should reduce his load this upcoming season too.

Yup, Svi would need like 3 different guys to be hurt all at the same time just to even be in the conversation to get anything resembling regular minutes.
Also, its not like Beasley suddenly became available by getting cut. He was a free agent this entire offseason. That being the case, if they valued Beas over Wood not sure why they would have even claimed Wood on waivers and just originally signed Beasley instead.
I think the team just isn't all that high on Svi and view Beasley as the better option to fill some SF minutes.
Like Wood, Svi also has an unguaranteed contract. These are the reasons I personally believe its Beasley vs Svi more so that Beasley vs Wood.

35 minutes for a 30yo with knee issues is way too many. Not only does that need to be cut back if they want him to be fresh beyond March, I wouldnt even play him against the bottom feeders. With the PF depth that we finally have, it shouldnt be that big of an issue.

I don't think they are trading Thomas, they gave up two picks to get him in the first place.

Re: 2019-2020 Depth Chart
All this talk about load management for Blake sounds well and good. Until we remember that we aren't good enough to win games without him on the floor. Nothing we've done this offseason changes that. And Gores/Casey want to win games.
