Re: The Josh "Nonstop" Okogie Thread: Obi-Wan Okogie Awakens
Josh has pretty "bad" stats for a rookie, but he sure did look promising in his first year. Next season he WILL be knocking down all the open looks he's had & he will be more disciplined on his NBA ready defense in year 2.
If he can work the hell out of his 3 point shot and pump fake and drive, he will be one of the best players from his draft,
I wonder if he'll be on any of the rookie teams?
1st team:
Young
SGA
Doncic
Jackson
Ayton
2nd team:
Sexton
Okogie
Huerter
Bagley
Robinson
Wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Shamet in for Josh, I think that'll be the teams though

Not too bad, Josh

I feel like Josh could really thrive this year playing with Rubio. Remember Brewer in 2013-14? I could see that type of impact in the open court.

They mesh very well together on defense. Rubio has always been a smart, team defender who reads the game and disrupts opponent offensive flow, by patroling passing lanes, taking charges, applying double teams, while Okogie is more PoA, on ball defender. But Okogie really must hit those corner 3s at league-average rate.

Do we need to start thinking of Okogie as a PF? I think there's a real possibility. And I think it could surprise some people how often it happens.

I'm not asking you to, but i'd love to see the list of starting PFs for every team next season...I could see him starting there in a PJ Tucker role for us against certain teams...he's not as beefy as PJ Tucker and not a good enough 3pt shooter(yet)

I think Tucker is the right comp. As for the weight, remember they seem to like their PFs lighter.....Towns, Reid and Cook are only guys on roster over 225 (and Edwards is only other guy above 217). Okogie (212) falls right in line with Layman (209), Hernangomez (214), Vanderbilt (214) and Hollis-Jefferson (217).

I don't buy him as a PF or 4, but since we don't use a PF or 4 on our team I guess that doesn't matter.

That's essentially what I was going to say. Okogie isn't a PF, but we will end up playing him in lineups where we're not using a PF.

I have been saying that Josh Okogie will be utilized as a swing-forward for a while. It is questionable in some match-ups, but Minnesota is definitely going for the “run and gun, outwork” strategy.

Re: The Josh "Nonstop" Okogie Thread: Obi-Wan Okogie Awakens
Okogie is a truly fun player to watch at times and you cannot argue the effort. He offers flexibility as a wing, but call the position whatever you want.
Edwards "can" play defense (physically capable) but must be "willing" to commit himself mentally. It will prove to be good experience practicing/playing with scrappy defenders (Rubio, Okogie, Culver) to help acquire an effective NBA pace. Experiencing success thru team defense will be a long-term benefit for the AntMan or any other rookie. We've all seen good offensive players who have little value if they are off their game, offensively, so good to know Vanterpool is working with him early on in this short camp.
Okogie has proven himself an effective role player ... would be awesome to see Edwards deliver that scrappy play along the with 20-25 pts./night on top of it.

Jinx. I really want full size players at all positions.

Whenever you see me commenting about us not using a PF or 4 you can assume I am being snarky. I want full size players or larger at PG wing 1-2-3 and center. If we aren't playing a full traditionally sized PF we will get killed on the boards except for when we are playing Vanderbilt who I have heard is a monster on the glass.

So you're saying that size doesn't necessarily affect how a player does on the glass?

There are always exceptions, but in general I want traditionally full sized or larger than full sized players at every position. I'm a proponent of tall and big ball.

If we are gonna factor in Okogie's wingspan to an adjusted height, we might as well add in when he is standing on a stool ... then we got a defensive center too. Looks to me Ryans comment was taken out iof context.
