Nike execs don't seem to know basketball too well. They just gave Zion a bigger deal than they gave a rookie Lebron. Lebron had little chance of failure and was about as automatic as it gets in having a star career. Zion is such an unknown with his health and weight. Wow, Nike. This may end up being a major loss for them if Zion doesn't pan out.

Pretty impressive that in a matter of 3 years, the Clippers have moved off of Paul, Blake, and Jordan, and replaced them with Leonard and George. Very impressive. Those LA teams just have a huge advantage in free agency.

Nike’s value is at about 32 billion at the moment ... I think they’ll be right.

The deal is said to be 105 million (lebron was 87 million).

it doesnt really matter if Zion is a huge bust or not, since Nike will likely make 25-60% of that back before he even plays his first game. people dont wait 3 years for a popular player to prove himself before buying his merchandise. Zion will likely be top 5 in jersey, shoe, and merchandise sales this year regardless of performance. and even if he never becomes an all-star his highlgghts and game likely keep him a top seller for a few years with just a few highlght dunks and moments.

Also, there is intrinsic value beyond the sales. Nike continuing to sign the best player every year keeps their brand strong and relevant.

It will make it easier to find him when the Nets get to 7 games under .500 and Kyrie starts questioning his teammates and coaches.

Did they talk about Zion getting a signature shoe? He isn’t moving the needle without it and probably won’t with it. Retro Jordan’s are the thing that sell these days

The recent models have flopped as well as the signature lines like Westbrook. Keep pretending you know everything though, never gets old

Zion was allegedly offered 10years/250 million from Li-Ning. Anta reportedly offered 4/80. I can't believe Zion took such a small amount to sign with Jordan Brand, boggles my mind. He must really enjoy wearing Nike-branded apparel to give up so much money and he'd be a God in China if he signed with either Li-Ning or Anta. RJ Hampton, who won't even be drafted for a year has already signed with Li-Ning for 5 years, though I can't tell the total contract price (probably dependent on his draft slot).

75 million over 7 years is peanuts for someone with his marketability.

Good deal for MIL, if you ask me. If he gives them even anything close to Mirotic level production you & Curm will look like geniuses. I really like the way MIL has done everything since last summer, with the one big exception being Bledsoe instead of Brogdon.

I definitely did not want the kid in his draft class (I think it was Jaylen's), and I think he's been a bust since he's been in the league, but now, though, for really short money, it's definitely worth a swing. They risk nothing to fill a 15th slot.

Yep. I didn't want him in the draft, either. I was a Murray guy who is happy with Brown. But the kid is still 21, bigs take a while, his role will be simplified (if he has one), so why the heck not?
