Teams are already preparing for "generational" 2022 draft class

Post#1 » by buzzkilloton » Sat Jul 27, 2019 8:13 am

"The ballyhooed “Double Draft” should arrive in 2022 because of a confluence of high-end players from two talented high school classes. That’s expected to be the first season when the NBA rule change goes into effect that will pare down the NBA age minimum from 19 to 18. That means all of the country’s best one-and-done players from 2021 and prep-to-pro prospects from 2022 will combine for a blockbuster draft that, in theory, will have double the high-end talent.

“I think it’s going to be a monumental draft class, potentially a generational class,” Rivals.com recruiting analyst Corey Evans said. “The infiltration of the one-and-done class from 2021 and the potential of the straight-to-the-pros group makes it a tsunami of talent, like two draft classes in one.”

Class has the best prospect in the World Emoni Bates in it on top of being a double draft. We need to be setting ourselves up to get as many picks in this draft as possible. This is where we could change the course of the franchise. Hopefully the front office is thinking the same way and moves guys this season to get picks in 22.

Looks like we already shipped out the 2022 2nd for James Fkn Ennis. Way to turn gold into poop SVG.

This is the year to really amass those picks. Even 2nd rounders basically have become mid 1sts with the amount of raw talent coming in from high school to college.

So what? The Pistons will just screw up their picks anyway. You build a champion by trading away your draft picks in order to get over-30 superstars on horrible contracts! Who doesn’t know this by now? Geez.

This news is completely irrelevant to Piston fans I think.

Odds are the team wont even have a pick then, and will have won around 38 games.

Such is the current cycle until the for...until Gores sells the team.

The king of strawmen

So you’re saying no one in this forum has devalued draft picks under the premise that the Pistons management would just make bad picks anyway, or that you build a championship team through trades and free agency rather than through drafting and developing players. Derpa derp ok hurr durr durr

Find it funny that one draft is gonna make all the difference.

The reason we should consistently be looking to acquire first round picks is obvious.

There are many teams in the league that are actively trying to "win now" and many that are actively "rebuilding/retooling". Each team needs to understand where they (realistically) are and act accordingly.

Franchises run into trouble when they don't understand where they really are. Look at our last decade, the Kings, Magic, Wizards, Bulls, Suns etc

Being mediocre is a recipe to remain that way. In order to win you need to acquire big time talent. The easiest way to do that is through the Draft Lottery.

Yeah you still gotta hit on your picks but it's the only way some teams are going to land a superstar or franchise player.

One Draft will not change our future, one trade or signing won't either.

kings magic wizards and suns have been in the lottery half or most of the decade and get it wrong more than they get it right.

picking 2-10 is as much as a crapshoot as any other pick. there's a lot of GMs and orgs that are really bad at drafting. like really really bad.

if sekou turns out nice..we can officially trust this FO. especially with how Bruce is working for the team

This is a pretty obvious boom/bust trap. The only winning move is to just get as many picks a possible and play the odds. A lot of these highly rated HS guys don't show out in college, let alone the NBA.

3 first rounders for blake and 2 for dre.... with players changing hands. Have two first round picks for the next five years. And if nobody is there, trade those picks for future picks.

Wow a double class draft. So the draft will have 8 guys instead of 4 that avg 10ppg or more.
