I guess this is why we kept acquiring him. He does have some talent.

Thought that was a screwball before reading the description. I think pitchers should throw splitters more often, seems their used to be many starters throwing it but not as many anymore.

It's weird is what it is. Isn't thrown with a true screwball motion, in that it doesn't appear that he is pronating his forearm, but it's thrown straight over the top (his arm at release is about as close to 12 o'clock as you'll ever see), which is how Carl Hubbell and others got the screwball to reverse.

Most screwballers used a grip akin to a change-up to get the higher RPM/lower velocity fade, but a near forkball grip (which appears to be what he's working with there) would probably have a similar effect if most of the pressure was applied with the index finger, imparting counterclockwise spin as a righty.

Bigger question is whether he can ever throw it again. Kinda wonder if he was trying to throw a more traditional splitter, but his herky-jerky delivery and tendency to fall off the mound gloveside caused him to apply rotation that he wasn't intending to.

Candelario isn't a slug, either. That's a near-impossible throw.

Remarkable how Bellinger has cut down his K's this year. Almost 7 WAR already.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Braves release Luiz Gohara, once-promising prospect - AJC.com

The Braves released Luiz Gohara on Friday, officially ending the once-promising left-handed pitcher’s time in the organization.

The release came two days after the Braves designated Gohara for assignment.

Gohara made five starts for the Braves late in the 2017 season, encouraging the Braves about his future. But he has pitched sparingly and largely ineffectively since then, battling injury and weight issues. He underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery earlier this year.

The AL is even crazier this year than last. The Rays won 90 last year and didn't have so much as a sniff of the playoffs...this year, the Rays/A's/Cleveland are on pace for 93+, and one of them will likely go home empty-handed. Won't lie: I'm a bit disappointed that the Red Sox didn't make silly win-now moves chasing the Wild Card, not that they have much prospect capital to throw around.

Mookie Betts hasn't been 10 fwar mookie, he might get 5-6 this season by ROS fwar projection. Sale,Porcello and Eovaldi have had issues all year. The bullpen has the worst blow save % in the league after not bringing Kimbrel back they haven't been able to stabilize either the starting staff or bullpen at all.

Devers having a really good season though, as well as Bogaerts , he's having the best season by a Red Sox shorstop in quite a long time,
