Doesn't have far to go, at the very least. Details pending on return.

Sogard somehow hit a .406 OPS last year as utility player and double it to .840 when he was traded.

sounds like for a Minor Leaguer..not really sure who it could be..Have to think Mckay, Brujan, Sanchez, Liberatore, Honeywell, and Baz are out of the equation.

Baseball features many weird things. Few things I have witnessed match the weirdness of Eric Sogard's 2019. A guy who carved out a long (if DFA-filled) career by being a decent defensive utilityman and good clubhouse presence who, at age 33 suddenly was one of the better leadoff hitters in the majors.

Guessing it's not a massive return. He's a rental, and the bit where he has been a really bad hitter for all of his career pre-2019 is going to be priced into it.

Apparently. PTBNL can mean a few different things...could involve a player on their 40-man, and we don't want to complete the trade until we've cleared roster spots through the other trades likely to occur, could be a player rehabbing an injury, all manner of stuff. I mean, when Tampa got a PTBNL in the Archer deal, it was Shane Baz, so the quality of such varies significantly.

(It won't be Shane Baz)

Was this topic necessary?

We have a 2019 Deadline Thread.

Here's the thread where people bitched and complained that we didn't have a thread for every trade at the deadline last year, and instead had all of the discussion in the deadline thread (we could have; people just didn't create them):

viewtopic.php?f=123&t=1736375

So, I created a thread for a trade at the deadline, because it was something people seemed to consider quite necessary.

Happy this trade has its own thread. The deadline thread's turned into a very strange place where, I think, someone is advocating that Josh Donaldson should play shortstop for the the Jays in 2022?

Schad is saying we are getting Brendan McKay for Eric Sogard. Looks like a good deal to me :D

The PTBNL is only a mystery to us, the Jays almost certainly have a list of prospects from which they’ll be able to pick 2 from later. But maybe they don’t want to move them off their minor league teams just yet. Let them finish the season.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Often times there isn't even really a list: there's basically a prospect, and then an alternate or two if something happens to that prospect. I'm not expecting anything significant, but there's a fundamental difference between "PTBNL" and "PTBNL or cash considerations" in terms of what they convey...the former can be anything, the latter generally means "a one-armed man named Hector, or an Arby's gift certificate."

Rays have deal in place to get Eric Sogard from Blue Jays

TORONTO - The Rays have a deal in place to get infielder/outfielder Eric Sogard in trade from the Blue Jays, whom they are playing right now.

Nothing is expected to be made official until after the game, as medical reviews are believed to be ongoing.

The return from the Rays is not known but it will be a minor-league player, or players, possibly not announced today. It is not anyone on the 40-man roster, as the Rays will have to make room there for Sogard as well.
