I think the noise is going to propel this group to play over their heads in a major way. Lotta individual subplots going on that’ll either serve to motivate and bond this group or break everything from the top down apart. But that’s part of the noise. This mix of players, the volatility...I believe it’s completely deliberate. And if we are healthy it’s going to surprise. The team temperament is as close to those 90’s NY Knick teams as any team since. We sucker free again.
It’s squarely on the front office now.
The development and the coaching.
This team was built FROM SCRATCH.
They did that. Aggressively too.
If it wasn’t KD and a buddy, this was exactly the plan, I believe. Not a Tobias Harris or a Jimmy Butler or a Kemba win the nuthin-azz-papers, fake blockbuster move.
Randle is a centerpiece.
THE centerpiece actually, along with RJ, Mitch, Kev and likely DSJ and Iggy as a core.
Dude’s a huge get y’all. He’s gonna be a star here.
He’s primed to go from good young player to all star, health willing; gotta turn the production into winning but he’s built for it (too).
Early in the process I wasn’t high on him because of what I thought he’d cost in terms of years and cmon now, we thought KD was coming. But all that aside, the frigging guy was 20-10-4. And with his age, story and style of play slots perfectly as the starting power forward for this next iteration of Knick ball.
Randle-Morris-Portis-Payton whom we were linked to early and shooters with the yoots.
We didn’t “back into” anything except Morris who we really figured we’d just take an L on. So we actually got lucky for once (they don’t hear me doe).
We had targets, and since everybody tampered this year so we kinda knew what guys would cost lol. It wasn’t plan A but I really feel it was plan B+ (again, Morris).
We got who we wanted. It’s only right to expect results. I’m not entirely sure what “results” looks like for this group. We need very evident progress tho.
I’m optimistic.
