It was last summer too

Also I'd trade Hader for Tatis so fast.

No. Basically a guy on bf.net said he wouldn't trade Hader for anything so someone comes back with a you really wouldn't trade Hader if the Padres offered you Tatis, Paddack, Gore and Mejia and he still said no.

In all seriousness, this trade would HAVE to be for Yates. I can't find another player on the Padres roster that they'd be willing to trade right now that fits what the Brewers are looking for other than maybe some random relievers like Stammen.

I'm assuming this will basically be cash (just taking on the salary) and some guy with a very low ceiling.

It thins out the minors more but Ponce is of the order of Luis Ortiz, Brett Phillips, Jorge Lopez...

...i.e. probably someone that we've heard about and think may provide value but probably will either be a AAAA guy or never really make a dent in the show.

Yeah they basically just need someone to take some innings before Woodruff, Chacin (yes, I know), etc. come back.

Maybe they'll make one big play at someone like Robbie Ray, but I'm assuming this is mostly what they're gonna do. Just filler trades where they pay a lower tier prospect + take on the money.

It is funny though because Lyles was having a lucky season and was dominant (and he apparently has an improved curveball) and most people on bf.net were absolutely filleting Stearns and co. for not keeping him going into this season (they would've had to cut someone of presumed value just to pay him $2.5 million)...and now everyone's pissed that we've traded for a guy that is pitching like crap.

Ponce certainly isn’t a worldbeater but considering he is the cost for a guy in Lyles who has fallen off a cliff the past month is telling. Pitching isn’t cheap. Another uninspired arm to the Brewers pitching staff. Hopefully he finds his early season form? He has struggled mightily since his hamstring injury. :-?

Eh, whatever... I think the only pitching trade that would get me excited would be if they traded for Derek Johnson. I still think that's had an impact on them this year.
