RE: The Cain contract, assuming that Attanasio is going to keep pushing forward as long as Yelich is here, 2020 is really the interesting hump year if you assume their standard payroll constraints. After that, it's not like it's exciting to have 2/$35 left on his deal after 2020, but they'll have room on the rest of the roster with Braun only having a buyout assuming they don't pick him the option (which honestly I wouldn't rule out).
They'll have essentially ~$100 million of payroll next year if the take all options/keep arby on all players. Add a starting pitcher that they may need, catcher, some bullpen help and you're at $125 pretty quickly without much impact.
However, they can decline options on or non-tender (I'm guessing on some of these): Nelson ($4m), Shaw ($5m), Anderson ($8.5m), Thames ($7.5m), Pina ($2m), Aguilar ($3m), Claudio ($2.5m), Arcia ($3m). I'm assuming they'll pick up Davies, Gamel, etc.
2021 currently they'll have lots of room (will probably change as they'll probably add some longer-term $ this offseason).

Reasonable. Another AAAA-type arm that has had some success.

It was predictable but it sucks that Aguilar bottomed out so hard. He was an easy player to root for.

I'd like this more if I was confident that we had a pitching coach that could tweak something and unlock magic.
Considering we almost cut Jesus, and he only had 1/2 of a good year, I guess it's nice to get something for him in the end.

Hope Jesus does well in TB. Faria seems like a decent return, depth type pitcher with several years of team control.

Definitely a move I can live with. Feels more like acquiring potential future talent as opposed to giving up future talent to buy. It's good to have gotten something for Aguilar while he got on a semi-hot streak.

Always my challenge with MLB versus other sports. There seem to be more one-year wonders than in other leagues. Then when you add in no salary cap and the big market revenue discrepancy, makes it hard for a small market to build and sustain a contender.
Oh, did I forget possible PED use causing some of this wild variations. For Twirl's sake, I'll add in PED use.

Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly selling high, which would've been this past offseason. It seems to be an ongoing trend with this team. Admittedly, who'd think guys like Jesus and Shaw, among others, would bottom out the way they did. Still hard not to imagine what the Brewers could've gotten for Jesus if they traded him earlier.

I want neither MadBum nor Smith, really. I don't mind a small buy trade this year, but still yuck.
