A Couple of Thoughts on Pat-Pat

I'm guessing this may position the Clippers to be able to trade Harkless during the season for Iguodala or someone else.

Kabengele definitely needs seasoning in the G-League with regards to his overall instincts even if his shot-blocking and 3-point shooting may be serviceable in the NBA right now. Patterson should be more productive than Motley.

yes this makes Harkless expendable and his $11.5 M a year as salary ballast can get you somebody decent

2017:

Last season, 2-Pat ranked 25th in defensive real plus/minus (+1.26), 10th in offensive real plus/minus (1.05) and 11th in real plus/minus (2.31) and hit a solid 37 % from 3.

Didn't this guy had massive anxiety problems and flying phobia? Or am I mistaking him with someone else?

Weird signing. He used to be a +/- machine in Toronto but struggled in OKC, I guess it’s not easy for a guy like him with such little spacing. Good value signing in a vacuum, not sure why we need him though.

That was definitely Royce White lol.

Btw, is anyone else getting a kick out of all the Salty Laker fans that constantly lurk around our twitter and news feeds? The insecurity is real af smh... Every signing you see all these responses like: "How's Mo Harkless gonna stop AD huh???" "Patterson's not gonna stop AD so dumb!" "AD is our Savior." It's like everyone forgot about Kawhi, a guy who can neutralize Giannis in the Playoffs. I'm widdit when it comes to all these deep ass bench signings. Our bench > most starting lineups. Hell I'd feel confident letting our 3rd string against most starting lineups.

Count me with the “smart signing!” group. When your numbers are consistently solid (with more than one team) … and then, after a trade, dip with a new team … you have to ask why. OKC didn't work for him. Patterson is a big time team first guy; I always loved the piece he wrote about the Raps a few years ago. (he name drops Lou here too.)

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/patrick-patterson-raptors-toronto-playoffs

Check out that quote:

“It sounds like a simple thing, but the truth is that it’s not easy to get players to take a step back and keep their egos in check at this level. But we bought into this idea that we could have a winning basketball team … and not long after, the entire city did as well.”

Tell me that doesn’t sound like a player you want. I don’t think he’s better than Harkless--even though his advanced stats prior to his time in OKC were (very) good. If he is—or close—and it allows us to trade Mo for valuable pieces, great. If he’s “only” a solid bench guy that accepts his role as an 11th man and helps us win games … hey, great there too.

I think this is a good end-of-bench vet signing. We're not counting on him to do anything other than be a glue guy, which he seems to have the right mentality for. I think for guys like this, their play depends a lot on their role and the players around him. We're not going to expect/demand he play outside his comfort zone, just play hard, defend, and be a credible threat from 3.

He seems like a poor man's Harkless, so I agree with True that it may enable us to flip Harkless for another asset later and end up with a net team upgrade.

Without getting too deep into it, 2Pat wants to be a Clipper, at minimum wage, and accepted a buyout to make that happen. He's kicked some ass in this league in hardcore Clipper fashion.

Welcome, bro. Many are called, few are chosen.

This was always Doc's vision, to make the Clippers a destination in the NBA. Unfortunately, CP and BG and then DJ ate up all the money. JJ got most of the rest.

And in the end, we found out they all hated each other and would never give a single dollar back in their contracts to keep "the team" together. It was never a team. CP and BG were teammates, but they were never a team. They couldn't wait to get away from each other.

And the FAs surely heard that. We only got the leftovers. Doc as GM could only BS them so far.

Anybody would kill to join a team with KL and PG. CP and BG, not so much. Patterson is one smart dude.

Patrick Patterson gave up $3.5 million of his $5.7 million salary to secure a buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Patterson is widely expected to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Did you ever think there would come a day when somebody would PAY to join the Clippers??????

Not So Fast and No Tears Being Shed

So either the Clippers said, "no thanks" or he's changed his mind upon hearing about the possibility of a better offer out there. Sounds to me like the former.

Or he could still be considering the Clips while negotiating with other teams. Nothing is done until it is.
