nope.
you have 2 ways to look at it.
one is similar to the model in Winnipeg. True North Sports and Entertainment have a written commitment to spend X amount of capital every year for arena improvements. so far, they've redone the floor, new concessions, a new club/meeting area, loge seating, wraparound arena lights, new arena seats. one of the reasons they do this is so an arena doesn't get run down (hello, Saddledome) and you then need to get the half a billion to somehow build a new arena. in this day and age, it isn't happening. even for the Raptors/Leafs, the cost of building a new arena downtown would be unattainable. so you keep on improving your facility.

the second reason: it's a write-off. you invest money back into infrastructure and you write those costs off. from a business point of view, it makes sense to re-invest in your facilities, especially if your investments can result in more revenue.

The concession areas in conjunction with the flow of customer traffic has been a disaster. Lineups are too long and the idea of blocking ticketholders from returning to their seats until there is a whistle is ridiculous. Yeah it sucks having people shuffle by in front of you but utilizing the entire 3rd quarter to reseat everyone is idiotic not to mention all those empty seats, bad for the optics.

Bet they'll make further upgrades to J-Park in addition to having the trophy available to see as you walk in. Casey should enjoy that one.

I was thinking about this the other day. Teams nowadays change arenas quickly. Same with stadiums. But in Toronto and New York, and other big cities, they really cannot as there is nowhere else to build that makes sense. They will have to do continuous renovations and facelifts forever.

And in big markets it's going to be harder to threaten to move the team in order to get a city to pay for a new arena
