This is a boring story.

1) I lurked for a long time (years)

2) Eventually took the plunge and made an account (with a non random(.org) name)

3) Posted sparsely

4) One day by chance discovered the friends/foe feature

5) Immediately put 4 or 5 people who I think are a net negative to read on foe - so I don't have to see their posts

6) Instantly was banned. Literally, within half an hour without posting anything.

7) No response from mods as to why over ~two weeks.

8) Try again with a random(.org) username to see if that helped avoid site-idiocy.

9) Here we are 1800 value-laden posts later.

I'm just trying to figure out which sort of acerbic banned poster from a couple of years ago B8RcDeMktfxC is. I recall a poster who would post good stuff but was kind of confrontational in tone, who got banned, and I feel like B8RcDeMktfxC is his somewhat chastened comeback account.

This basically answers the question, so I'll ignore the other post by you where you say I'm unclear.
In effect, the players and the team get to have the money distributed "no strings attached". Cap hold was the wrong term, but I'm referring to the idea that if a player got a 2 million dollar check, they maybe it raised the cap hit for the player NEXT season, as it could represent a form of "salary".

I get that if a team doesn't use the cap, it keeps open the ability to trade into it. Obviously, the converse, as you say, is potentially being "not as good", if the extra players worth "X" are an "X" improvement.

Obviously it's different than signing a player, as if a player has a 5 million $ contract for 3 years, that play knows he'll get 5 million for 3 years. I'm just pointing out it has an interesting potential for cap circumvention - meaning, the team still has to pay OUT the money (players association happy) but the team gets to save cap flexibility by not spending the money on traditional "contracts" - so, there could be a back channel conservation to the player/agent, where they let it be known that each player on the team will wind up with 2 million more per year, for one year only obviously, while a big market deep pockets team could do this, yet keep the cap room open, then later take on the 30 million dollar contract. Obviously it's a little arcane, but interesting it's an option.

Yes, yes. Completely agree with your last para. It's an arcane, but very interesting option. It isn't impossible that someone, somewhere will investigate this more thoroughly. (Of course, whether the current Knicks FO did or didn't is not possible to say, but .. making ill informed guesses .. it doesn't look like they thought about it.)

mkay, I was a little wrong. I did dig out that a/c. I had a total of 10 posts over 9 months.

This was a good listen... as a Knicks fan and also Yankees - I just find it very very difficult for fans to have patience. On the Yankees thread the other day - someone said the Yankees were horrible - A first place team horrible?

In any case, back to topic - I personally think Frank will have a long career in the NBA but I'm not sure it can or will be with the Knicks. This city is brutal. And on that note - many people have mentioned how the Morris signing will have an effect on Knox. I think it has a bigger effect on Frank. Prior to the Morris signing, I thought Frank would've been best suited to start alongside JR & Mitch because it would put too pressure on Mitch to have Knox & JR both in the front court (two bad defenders). But Morris is not a bad defender and could easily slide into the 3 spot - leaving Knox as bench option #1 or 1a --- but at the same time pushing Frank further down the depth chart.

Barring injury - hard to see Frank getting the opportunity to prove himself with the current logjam.

Franks nba career is on the line if he doesn't do well this year because he didn't have good first 2 years. I feel if he struggles this year its will be over for frank on the knicks and i don't think perry, mills, and fizdale have any confidence in frank becoming anything. Perry can't even trade frank for a bag of potato chips that's how bad frank has been. I don't believe frank would have been the starting point guard this year with team because he hasn't done anything to prove he can be a starting point guard. They wouldn't have traded for dsj if perry was confidence in franks ability which he wasn't. I think frank has to take blame for some his struggles if you can't beat out in your first 2 season jack,session, burke, or mudiay then you don't deserve to be the starting point guard for this team.

I disagree... there'll always be room for a good defender on a good team. (But we're not a good team). I forgot who said it (Wally maybe?) but Frank needs to focus on what he's good at and that's defense and then be able to hit a shot once in awhile.
