None of the rookies showed.
Shai isn't listed
Looks like
Cory, Pangos , Best, Scrubbx2 , Notice , Heslip
Maybe Brissett or Keane takes notice's spot though. I dunno
Birch , Olynyk , Boucher , Wiltjer, Ejim
Yeah, of the 19 on the list, two are camp only, and another four are in school or are incoming rookies. So leaves 13 guys battling for 12 spots.
One of Keane, Best, Notice, or Heslip gets cut, and the rest is set.
Aside from the bigger name absences, we could have used Doornekamp and/or a big guard (Stauskas or even Rautins).
Even a guy like Dylan Ennis or Hanlan in the mix at guard might have been a good option.
The guards we have just aren't good enough to support a lot of 3-guard sets.
T. Scrubb with at least 25 minutes a game?
And, although we knew they wouldn't play in China, its really too bad that Clarke, Dort, Kabengele, and NAW aren't even bothering to be at camp.

Let's hold off anointing Murray now. Hes skipped out every chance hes had since being drafted. Screw these guys. Everyone jumped on Wiggins but half the NBA guys are bailing too. Only they're all doing it last second with our own coach having no clue going in to training camp. I knew that list was too good to be true. I really hope Canada basketball had some idea about who would show or not or else that's really unprofessional and selfish of the players, and really pathetic organization from CB.

The fact that keane or best is going to be on this team is a major failure. Major failure. They're not even close to being our second tier of player.

Does anyone know how much these guys get paid for playing? Or do they even get paid? Seems like a large investment of time as well as risk to get injured if not. Especially, since an injury to some of these guys could mean their livelihood.

I actually like Best alot. Plays great D, gets out in transition and hits open 3s.
He's a great "takes nothing off the table" guy to me. He obviously shouldn't be an offensive focal point but he's a good 3 and D guy and very useful imo
I would have considered him for one of the last few spots even if the options were better.

For real, so many people bailed, not just Wiggins. At least Wiggins gave the coaches some time so they could prepare more efficiently. Well.. maybe the others let them know earlier, but the info didn't leak/wasn't released.

* Injury, training camp only

At least admit why you're not playing. "I was gonna play but just happened to twist my ankle a couple days ago". Cmon man

Im so angry at Jamal Murray right now. Id rather lose in the Olympics as we always have, then let this MF play for team Canada.
He's a joke, just like Wiggins and all the Americans who play for a gluttony of money over Country.
Our world is going to complete sh*t.

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V2.0
The commitment of 6 weeks just prior to NBA training camp is TOO long.
That being said, these players are primarily about themselves. There are exceptions. But a big reason they are making a career in the pros is from the grassroots programs and its time to give back. If these programs are all about the .01% earning big $ in the NBA, then scrap them. This is a big difference between basketball players and hockey players.
I give a lot of credit to those that are playing.

Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V2.0
Murray and Powell were the big ones for me that I felt needed to play for us to have a shot. Well let's hope this is just due to horrible FIBA scheduling and it being a less glamorous tournament (in NA players eyes) and is not a precursor for the commitment we will see for the 2020 Olympics.

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V2.0
Some interesting tidbits bubbling up on Twitter. Supposedly a number of guys on the 29 man "invite list" where never able to play in the first place and had told Canada Basketball that (Leo Rautins saying that was the case with Andy). Not just Wiggins.
Wiggins actually looks good here because he made sure he was seen as giving plenty of notice where Canada Basketball has set it up where the others look like they bailed last second, which was likely never the case with many of them.
I think we really missed out on a allot of Tier 2 guys what could have really matter here- Andrew Nicholson would have been huge. Nik Stauskas, Dylan Ennis, Naz Long, Andy, Doornekamp.

I dont get being in camp but not playing in the tourney, you either play or you dont. Wow, what a big dissapointment this Canadian team looks like, right now I have Australia and Lithuania making out of the group.

I always figured this was the case - that Canada had "invited" these 29 players without really getting an official response as to whether or not they were even available.
For some of the NBA guys (Murray, Powell) - I get it. Next year the table is wide open. Makes zero sense as Jamal Murray to jeopardize his whole team's chance at an NBA Championship in order to play on the World Cup team. With that said, it's really sad that we can't capitalize on the Golden Era of Canadian Basketball. 2015 will always go down as our best team and it's unfortunate that we blew it.
As always, I have massive respect for Olynyk and Cojo. If there was a way to retire their jerseys (plus Joel), I would be all for it.

Yeah, it seemed odd to issue an "invitation" list and to say that the final list would be posted before camp. Seems like the initial list was a wish list at best. But its one thing to include guys who haven't explicitly said no, another to include guys who have (like Rautins, if what Leo says is correct).
mojo13 wrote:Wiggins actually looks good here because he made sure he was seen as giving plenty of notice where Canada Basketball has set it up where the others look like they bailed last second, which was likely never the case with many of them.
Yes. Maybe Powell bailed late, but I suspect Stauskas, Lyles, Brooks, SGA, and Murray had never said yes.
mojo13 wrote:I think we really missed out on a allot of Tier 2 guys what could have really matter here- Andrew Nicholson would have been huge. Nik Stauskas, Dylan Ennis, Naz Long, Andy, Doornekamp.
Exactly. We wouldn't need these guys if we had all the tier 1 guys, but given their absences, we really could use the guys you listed. I would add Bennett and even Hanlan and Pierre (I know you are not big fans of either, but I think they would at least have a shot at beating out Keane or Notice, for example).
This team is not nearly as good as it could be, even if you assume no SGA, Murray, Brooks, Powell, Wiggins or Powell.
