So cool that klay, dray and steph will remain the core of this team for years. I want them to win 2 more chips.

I'm happy these 3 has-beens will have front row seats to see the next generation big 3 (Russell, Paschall, and Smailagic) up close for the next few years.

Draymond's extension

Post#83 » by xdrta+ » Mon Aug 5, 2019 7:21 pm

Includes a player option and a 15% trade kicker. Trade kickers are on the total of the remaining contract, so it can be a significant factor.

I'd say the opposite. Draymond is a very smart guy. $100M guaranteed in the bank, as opposed to a hope and a prayer of more next year? After seeing what happened to Klay, KD, Cousins, etc. How much do you really need, anyway.

This was a great deal for Draymond.

He'll be 30 and closer to 31 next season. No one would give him a fat contract. He needs to play with scorers and shooters, and there is no team that has that talent that will have the cap space to sign him.

Draymond probably decided to take $100m/4 before he switched to Klutch. Maybe he offered to join Klutch to repair their crappy image of making their clients lose money, and also playing irrational hardball. In return, he gets dips on LeBron's ventures and sure-fire deals.

Probably a spot on Space Jam 2 too but at this point, LeBron would welcome *ANY* NBA star to join because no one is interested.

Draymond signing a reasonable $100m/4 deal without any drama is a great stabilizing story for Klutch.

didnt think he'd do the extension because reasons but it's definitely the safer route, he saw what happened to Cousins...1 ACL tear away from being a mid level player really, or even another mediocre season could see his stock plummet...this way he'll guarantee 100mi and guarantee that he stays in the Bay...glad he didn't try to overplay his hand.

i don't get it, this has more to do with Dray/Rich realizing the odds of playing this year out vs. signing the extension now...not sure what Myers did to change anything here?

Player option in 23-24, which is last year of his deal?

Plus 15% trade kicker, meaning what if he gets traded, he gets 15% of the salary for that year or for the remaining value of the deal?

So at most, the team trading for him would have to pay $15 million additional?

i always thought the trade kicker has to be paid by the team trading away the player but I think it depends on what's written in the contract itself?

Teams are permitted to write a bonus called a "trade bonus" (sometimes referred to as a "trade kicker") into contracts. This bonus is paid to the player when he is traded, but only upon his first trade and not upon any subsequent trades (in the case of a sign-and-trade, they don't count the initial trade when the contract is signed). The trade bonus is paid by the team trading away the player. The trade bonus can be defined as a specific dollar amount, a specific percentage of the remaining value of the contract, or some combination (for example, "$1 million or 10% of the remaining value of the contract, whichever is less").

His kicker is for 15% of the remaining contract, so the amount would vary depending on when he's traded. And it's paid by the Warriors. Steph and Klay have the same 15% trade bonus, the difference is that their salary would be at or near the max when/if they were traded, so the kicker would be voided. A player can't receive more than the max salary for any year. Green is well under the max, so he would collect.

Does the kicker affect the cap or is it just additional money the organization has to eat if they want to trade a player?

Lakers had to get AD to waive his trade kicker to clear up enough cap space to try to sign Kawhi.

If he's traded and the kicker is paid it affects the cap. The value of a trade bonus is applied to the team salary among the remaining seasons of the contract. For example, if Green were traded at the beginning of 21-22, after one year of his extension, he would have 2 years, total about $48M remaining on his contract (option year doesn't count.) His bonus (15%) would be $7.2M. So $3.6M would be added to team salary (cap) each of the next two years.

I'm cool with Draymond getting a player option and a trade kicker for signing his extension before he hit FA. I'm excited to see what the team looks like this year and hopefully the distractions will be at a minimum this upcoming season.

Gonna be sick to have all 3 of our stars be lifetime Warriors in an era where literally every star leaves their team (hopefully Giannis won’t). I’m sure they might play for another team for a couple years towards the very end (ala Tony Parker), but outside of that they claimin Dubs fo’ life.

Steph and Klay should be lifers, but I can see Dray ending up somewhere else after this contract

awesome news for us. now if we can get some wing depth, we will be back into business for another 3 years before this is all over. best of this, KD gets no jersey retirement and statue..
