Wait, I am confused because several posters here specifically said that he was going to definitely be in the bullpen for Houston. Why is he starting?

He will be almost certainly be in the bullpen when Brad Peacock returns from the DL in a week or two, because the Astros have five starters who are vastly superior to him.

And that's Aaron Sanchez: occasional flashes of brilliance, paired with weeks of sheer incompetence.

peacock vastly superior to sanchez? maybe you really do work for the jays as implied here.

(click major league stats and sort by year)

Sanchez was better in 2016 while peacock pitched 35 innings that year, guess who was better the other seasons.

if the Jays pay fans that know baseball and watch too much of it, I'm interested. Send me a pm.

Yes, Peacock is vastly superior to Sanchez. Last three years:

Peacock - 282 IP, 11 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, 122 ERA+, 3.49 FIP.
Sanchez - 259.2 IP, 7.5 K/9, 4.8 BB/9, 84 ERA+, 4.96 FIP.

Peacock has been better in every way. They're talking about deploying him in relief now, at least temporarily, because of his shoulder injury, but there's absolutely no question that he's the superior pitcher.

Hmmm, those numbers look pretty close, schad. You sure about this?

Biggio (rightfully) isn't getting as much talk as the other large adult sons, but that power's real real. That's his first LvL HR, which is something that'll need to happen with more frequency, but he has pretty firmly established that he can hit the ball hard, and get results against right-handed pitching. He'll have a fruitful career in some capacity.

I feel he’s been screwed a ton by umpires because he’s a rookie. As he gets older he’ll be known for his incredible eye, and get all those borderline calls.

That was Biggio's first home run against a lefty. His BB and K % are nearly identical to both, as well as, on base % but the iso of .030 L vs .230 R might be the difference maker right now. Actually on further look that was only his 3rd extra base hit against them, the other 2 being doubles.

A nine-pitch at-bat where Jason Adam succeeded without ever actually throwing the ball over the plate.

Team has an OPS around .780 since June 1st. We're still a work in progress, but this should be a genuinely good offensive team in the not-too-distant future.

Prayers up.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

He’s currently on the minor league injured list, meaning that Toronto’s only course of action with Paulino will be to release him. Clubs can no longer trade players who’ve been on 40-man rosters under the league’s new August trade restrictions, and teams are also unable to pass injured players through outright waivers. Another club could claim Paulino off release waivers, and he’ll have the opportunity to sign with a new organization if he clears. However, it’s also fairly common in these situations for the released player to sign a new minor league deal with his former club.
