Officially rooting for Cullen Large.

Jose Espada is a name I haven't heard in a while. He and Justin Maese have both just been gutted by injuries. In 2015 they were performing well as 18 year olds in rookie league ball and are both still there and performing worse 4 years later. Injuries suck. Yennsy Diaz, meanwhile, was another 18 year old on the same team in 2015 and was worse than both of those guys but is on the verge of getting a shot in the majors, though he got rocked in his first outing.

Mentioned Hiraldo, but all of our young J2 infielders are performing admirably. Orelvis left the building for the second time today, bringing his line to .265/.333/.459, which is a pretty damned good set of slashes for a 17 year old. Leonardo Jimenez is the more glove-heavy of the trio, and his offensive numbers aren't spectacular, but the doubles power he has shown may help him to avoid the Kevin Vicuna flight path.

I feel like Gabriel Moreno really oughta be a top 100 prospect come the off-season.

TJ Zeuch's next start will be most interesting, because yesterday's may have been his best since being drafted.

He went 7 ⅓ and it breaks down like this.

Through seven, his line was 7IP, 0R, 2H, 2BB, 4K

He went out for the eighth and gave up in succession, a soft liner single, an infield hit, an infield bunt, which scored a run. He then left after 92 pitches with the bases loaded, and the reliever got an out and then gave up a grand slam. So even though Zeuch took the loss - Buffalo managed only one run – and gave up four runs, this was a quality start. I know the rap on him, that he doesn't have a lot of hit and miss, but given the state of our pitching at the major league level, and that a GO/AO of 10-5 is not shabby, it bears watching whether he can find some consistency. I believe he will have to be moved to the 40-man roster this winter if the Jays don't want to expose him to the Rule 5 draft, so a promotion sooner than later - there are enough slugs on the 40-man to drop without remorse - seems like a distinct possibility.

The broadcasters in the Jays minor league system are doing their weekly podcast, and now put a few of their thoughts on Twitter as they talk. Nothing earth-shaking but some interesting nuggets.

Alejandro Kirk hit his first and second HR since being promoted to Dunedin, tonight. And that was ages ago.

Too bad, hitting a tonne of doubles was at least helping him burn calories.

How would you compare Gabriel Moreno with former Jays prospect Carlos Perez? I randomly thought of comparing them earlier today, but it looks like Moreno is much, much better offensively at the same age. Moreno is doing better in the Midwest League than Pérez did when he was 2.5 years older and repeating the level.

Perez was glove-first, Moreno is bat-first. Perez was solid in his second spin through Lansing, but nothing spectacular; Moreno's been pretty spectacular.

Lansing's not the ultimate test, though. It's fairly hitter-friendly (though more so for lefties), but if he comes close to approximating these numbers at 20 in Dunedin, while showing the ability to remain behind the plate, he'll moving up the rankings pretty quickly. Low K/good BB catchers with pop are not common.

His wRC+ is basically right in line with Vladdy/Tatis/Franco when they were in the Midwest League. Those guys were all a year younger, but nobody’s expecting him to be as good as them offensively, obviously.

Yeah, his numbers by level/position are pretty out there. Probably going to take it slow as he still needs to learn the position (and we have a bit of a logjam with Kirk ahead of him) but if opinions on his skillset firm up, he'll jump in a hurry. Wasn't a big bonus signing, so there's always going to be a bit of lag before the consensus on him shifts, but if any lingering doubts are extinguishing he could be one of our top prospects. There really aren't many catchers with ++bat speed and control.

I am anticipating next year Dunedin might be a very interesting team to follow. They could have Moreno, Conine, SWR, Pardinho, Manoah, Groshans, and some of the other college guys drafted this year.

Manoah was hitting 100 in his last start.

He also struck out two sons of former Jays: Cesar Izturis Jr and Robert Perez Jr. If he can't be a large adult son, he can at least dispatch other teams' small adult sons.

Kay with another good start for BUF. 6IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 5BB, 8K. Except for the walks, this is trending the right way.
