Teodosic out. If Canada were to make it to the Final Round bracket, we would be playing either the 1st or 2nd ranked team from Group J (which contains the top 2 teams from each of Group C & D), which will most likely be Serbia or Spain (or maybe even Italy).

Getting a little ahead of myself, I know.

I think the only thing that excites any of these players is the olympics but we have to get there first. Even if we do, I feel bad for the players that got us there and then don’t get to play because the nba guys decided that now it was worth their time. It’s unfortunate and does seem like getting you know 5 of our top 7 guys will never happen

More random notes.

- Nigeria impressed me. They're doing a good job of bringing in expatriate Nigerians who grew up in the States and bringing them into their program. Let's hope they keep improving and beat out Argentina in pool play. A little know fact is that Melvin Ejim was born in Nigeria and tried out for their 2012 Olympic team but was a late cut ( he'd played only 1 year at the time for Iowa State ).

- According to Blake Murphy, young Addison Patterson ( who some people tell me will be an NBA guy ) and Eugene Omoruyi didn't travel to Winnipeg. More than likely they were extra bodies brought into camp to help run drills etc..

- 15 guys being taken to Australia.

- People who saw Jamal Murray tell me he is walking around with a swollen ankle and a pronounced limp. As well Dillon Brooks was in a walking boot. He'd played in the OVO Drake run the prior weekend , but appears to have suffered a setback. I think it fair to say the only folks who hate the Fiba tournament more than agents would be most NBA teams. They view their players as assets and since they get no revenue from this event would strongly prefer that players do some "load management". Generally at the end of the day it's up to the player to push back against all these pressures and and as an individual decide to play. There is however one caveat, if a guy is hurt the NBA squad has the hammer. Contractually they can preclude participation in the event. My take is this is what's happened to Murray. If you've actually been around elite basketball players ankle injuries are fairly common. They take, depending on the grading scale injury assessment, usually 7-10 days to heal. Some longer, some shorter. They also however, can become somewhat of a chronic issue if not treated properly and completely. My take is Murray would have been recovered by the start of the World Cup, but the Nuggets probably said screw this - you're done fearing a lingering and repetitive injury they pulled the plug.

- It wasn't posted here , but here's a nice story on Olynyk and Joseph who've known each other since being toddlers.

Don't get Mirotic started - this is obviously some CIA inspired plot. It's too bad he's a really good FIBA player. Hopefully Serbia can still give the Yanks a game.

I know it’s exhibition but how do Senegal, and Australia compare to Nigeria? If not much then Canada should still have a chance to advance.

I don’t know about Senegal but I would think Australia would be a heavy favorite against Nigeria. They have full participation except for Ben Simmons, and their starting 5 is all NBA players who have played together. Bogut and Delly have NBA championship experience, and Ingles and Patty Mills are important pieces on playoff teams.

Senegal is missing most of their top players (NBA or near NBA ) and not very good. Nigeria should be a much better team.
And yes Australia and Lithuania are much better than Nigeria (and likely Canada too).

XM is injured so he couldn’t play. And the other guys are barely NBA players at best

Alexey Shved is out of the WC. This sucks as it is huge boost to Argentina's chances to get to the 2nd round. Shved is by far the most important player to Russia and has been the best player in Europe the last few years.

Every other Americas team is looking pretty trash and Argentina was the one to watch.

Teodosic is out too - but that doesn't matter much to Canada.

If it makes anyone feel better Senegal is looking pretty bad. Maybe one of the worst teams in the tournament.

Sure - should I change that to highest paid? Or "one of the best"? The "best scorer"? Doesn't matter and all debatable I suppose. It is a huge loss for Russia, their top offensive weapon and a All-EuroLeague level talent. That alone knock them to a group favorite to likely the 3rd team favored to get out.

PS. watching Serbia - Lithuania right now, Lithuania is legit good IMO, also they are rocking 1939 gold medalist classic uniforms, looks great.

Top 2 teams from Americas make the Olympics. With the way rosters are shaping up most of the Americas teams besides the USA look historically bad and none (save maybe Argentina) are favored to get out of their pool thus helping Canada's chances to directly qualify even if we don't pool out.
Argentina seems the biggest threat but had a tougher pool and a realistic shot of not pooling out - Russia's loss of Shved certainly helps their chances.

It is going to be a very tall task for Canada to knock off either Lithuania or Australia.

Valanciunas is beasting, I am still super disappointed Raptors traded him, the title would have meant much more to me if Jonas was on the team. I wonder how Olynyk vs Jonas matchup gonna play out, 2 bigs that cant guard each other at all. Boban looked terrible on D, I see why most people treat him like a scrub even tho is unstoppable scorer.
