Dak Prescott turns down 30m, wants 40m per year

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:48 am

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports Dak Prescott is seeking $40 million annually.

That would make Prescott the highest paid quarterback in the league. Prescott has already turned down $30 million annually. It's not impossible Prescott resets the market, but it's hard to see him getting $5 million more than Russell Wilson's $35M AAV. The Cowboys have a considerable gap to close before Week 1.

Dak is nothing more than a stopgap qb. I'd slate him right around $20-25 million.

I would be surprised if Cowboys offered more than 34 million.

As an NFL fan I say no way Prescott is worth it and it would be a bad signing. As a Niner fan I hope Jerry gives him 40M/yr which would reduce their chances of keeping other Cowboys seeking new contracts. Do it Jerry!

Look at all the really good teams in the NFL.

The Rams. Goff is on his rookie deal.
The Chiefs. Mahomes is on his rookie deal.
The Browns. Mayfield is on his rookie deal.
The Texans. Watson is on his rookie deal.

When the Eagles won the Superbowl they had Wentz and Foles taking up barely nothing of their cap.

Guess when the Seahawks were better and won a superbowl? Wilson was on his rookie deal.

Guess when the Steelers win their 2 most reason Superbowls. Ben was on his rookie deal.

Even Tom Brady always took less then his market value which allowed for the team to spend money elsewhere.

When you pour all your money into your quarterback you can't build a team around him. It's dumb.

But why don't more QB's follow Brady's route & take less money?

Is it because they are millennial's?
(yes yes money$$$ greed blah blah. look out for #1 only, me myself & I).

:nonono:

Sigh...the life of a Texans fan knowing we'll probably end up a mediocre 8-8 or maybe 9-7 and still get bounced in the first round, and that's assuming Watson is still alive by the end of the season having to play behind that O-Line and with Ass Chin still in charge.

Hopefully they can stay healthy this year though, he's got a really good group of WR/TE's to work with if they can stay on the field.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

I even listed the Browns and they haven't proven anything yet. My only point was that teams with a lot of potential have QBs on rookie deals.

I hope they have a great year. Watson is my fantasy QB 8-)

Dump him. Get that QB from bama. His stock is dropping. And the cowboys can pick him up somewhat late

So, his lower NFL salary and her cash meet the acceptable level? What is this arbitrary amount that is enough exactly?

If a QB wants to get smoked behind a poor line and throw passes to receivers still learning their first wiggle move with Burgerking hands, keep on trying to take a higher percentage of that cap. You'll get what you asked for. For a runningback he probably cares a little less who he plays with, but they need lineman help too. All these star players trying to get more than the previous guy make it harder to build a team around them. It's a reality.

The Patriots team and Brady just understand this simple concept and win with it. The rest of these teams seem to be overcompensating with contracts because they don't actually have a QB as good as Brady. But it's easier to convince your fans you do when you dump 30 million on them. I'd show Dak the 40 inch wide exit door if he can't understand this concept. He's a good QB that could have a good career. But it's not like he's shown he is anything near Mahomes or done anything like that yet.

i don't know, everyone has their own number

maybe tom would have taken the same team-friendly deals no matter who he was married too. he might care enough about winning and staying in contention year after year that the money is less important

I think this is probably the case. He's made the comment that his wife more then fills the gaps financially, but I think this is more about not ruffling feathers league wide by being the best QB and yet taking half the pay he could demand. It takes the edge off that conversation for him, but we shouldn't overlook how much freedom this affords the Patriots.

Dak isn't even worth 30. Can't believe this guys asking for 40.

Guy throws 22 TDs a season, and has yet to break 4000 yards.

He thinks hes Russell Wilson, but hes really a homeless version of that. QB is absolutely the most important thing, but they will regret this contract even at 30 per.

But Skip Bayless says he's the most underrated QB & better than Wilson.
