So I've been having some fun with a new tool I found on stats.nba.com that allows you to see stuff like Ortg, Drtg, Netrtg, other stuff, for a player when another player is on or off the court

I was doing some digging, and I saw some stuff I expected, like Tim being an absolute black hole for advanced stats, it was pretty brutal, and so was Knox but that's to be expected. Then I thought, let me see what DSJ was about, cause I was pretty sure he was better than the numbers said

I'm going through, and turns out Mitch and DJ didn't really change much which I was surprised about given how bad DJ was for us, but then I found this:

It's DSJ's advanced stats for when Knox was on the court with him vs off (I limited the dates to post ASB to only get DSJ's play with the Knicks). DSJ had an Ortg of 100.9 and Drtg of 113.1 when Knox was on the floor with him for a Netrtg of -12.1, which is terrible. But when DSJ wasn't sharing the court with Knox?

107 Ortg, 101.1 Drtg, +5.9 Netrtg

Meaning we were 18 points per 100 possessions better with DSJ when Knox was off the court vs on the court. That's insane to me. DSJ's also 30 points better with Dot than without. Now, to be fair, this is a pretty small sample size, but even still, I think it's big enough to show a trend. Really just shows how bad Knox was last year, but I think some of us are underrating DSJ.

Also, just as a side thought, I'm really upset we didn't get to see Frank and DSJ play together. Cause both of their advanced stats were dragged down by playing most of their minutes with terrible players statistically (Knox for DSJ, Tim for Frank), both synergized really well with Dot, both pairs (DSJ/Dot and Frank/Dot) were kind of symbiotic, in both cases both were better off with the other on, worse with the other off. So, I'd be interested to see how a DSJ/Frank/Dot lineup looks statistically. Could just be small sample sizes though, so take everything I've said with a grain of salt.

DSJ is definitely the X factor. If he has a breakout year, we will definitely surprise a lot of folks in the standings.

I feel like Dennis's obvious upside comp. is pre-injury Derrick Rose. Obviously I don't think DSJ is a future MVP but Rose probably shouldn't have won that award that year anyway. Efficiency numbers didn't love him but he was an overhwelmingly athletic force. Similar to Westbrook and Dennis in that regard. I don't think DSJ has the same level of horizontal/change of direction explosion that pre-injury Rose had, but I do think he is a little bit smarter of a player at the same stage. Hopefully Dennis can continue to avoid the big knee injuries that seem to plague those modern hyper-athletic guards... Luckily he was born with 2 ACLs but he doesn't get a re-do on the next torn ACL

People say that but let's face it. Those Wizards teams were never exactly the pinnacle of high level talent. Antoine Jamison sure hed talented but not in that winners way, Larry Hugh's was the teams second best player and Caron Butler. All guys I feel like you split up in the right situation and fans would say they were good players but not great players. Arenas was carrying that team and hitting a ton of clutch shots. I feel like the team was never a mature team at any point and hes not excluded. Definitely not a leader in any regard. That was really the issue but in terms of production and shots that counted, I'd stop short of saying they were empty.

That's really generous. In fact I don't like it. Maybe athletically but Baron was a leader for sure. Dude is a natural troop rallyer and guys play looser around him. Hell even post injury and old he was probably the second most influential architects of the 18-6 finish during Woodsons interim coaching stint

B-Diddy in his prime was only about 205–209lbs. Y'all keep thinking about the corpse of B-Diddy when he became a chucker and lost athleticism. Had to get by on post-ups, long threes, slick passing and guile.

I actuallly beleive dsjrs passing ability is severely underrated.

I think he can be just as good if not better a point god as cp3.

His ceiling is that high imo.

I do, he was nice. Nothing super special though and he was dealing with injuries his whole career from 23 on
