Tristan Thompson As A Trade Target?
What do you all think of Tristan Thompson? Would he fit in with the Mavs' system? If the Mavs were to acquire him without giving up another big, then would TT start or come off the bench?

Re: Tristan Thompson As A Trade Target?
Here's an idea I had.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yxpmh4e7
Cavs save $4.4 million in the deal, but then the Mavs, with an open roster space, can use their TPE on John Henson to help the Cavs save an additional $9.7 million. That's a total savings of $14.1 million for the Cavs, and they'd still have a sizable expiring in Lee, get a 3 point specialist in Broekhoff, and would probably also net 2nd round picks in return for the Henson deal. Mavs would get 2 bigs, one of whom has 3 point range now, and the other who is a decent offensive rebounder.
C: Powell/TT/Boban
PF: KP/Kleber/Henson
SF: Justin Jackson/DFS/Roby
SG: Luka/Curry/THJ
PG: Delon/Brunson/Barea
Mavs have depth at PF/C when KP needs rest and/or is injured. Boban can't be counted on to play a lot of minutes, so there's depth behind him too. So if Powell or Kleber goes down, the team will need someone to step in, which is where TT and Henson come in handy. Mavs would still have 3 point shooting with KP, JJ, Curry, and maybe guys like Henson, Kleber, Powell, Luka, Delon, THJ, and Brunson if they all can improve a little.
Henson and TT are expirings that the Mavs can keep for themselves, or throw into a trade later on down the road for a player like Steven Adams, if OKC makes him available.

Cleveland is finally below the tax line and has no reason to shed any more salary. In fact, they're primed to become a super fund site, these expirings are their assets.

That's what I figured, but after talking to some fans (I know, not a good way to gauge what the team is actually thinking), I got the vibe that they just want to clear more cap space.

Just keep the team as is, see how it does, then make a trade to shore up weaknesses during the season if you want. No need to take the team above the tax line if they aren't going to compete.
Although, if TT and Henson work out, then I believe the Mavs could re-sign them to new deals regardless of their actual cap situation. But I doubt TT and Henson are the answers.

I don't see the Mavs going after a guy who has never shot a 3 pointer in his 8 year career.
He is what we need but the Mavs don't seem to have any interest in that type of player.
Perhaps by the TDL they will reconsider when we are dead last in the league in rebounding and getting brutalized in the paint.

Doesn’t make much sense for Dallas unless KP is just getting beat bad in the paint.
Cleveland has even less incentive to do it though. They’re terrible and they know they’re terrible... Might as well just keep the current lineup and suck for another year

Rich Paul client. I'd say chances are close to none.

Yeah, Mavs would have to give up picks if they want this to work out, which I don't see happening.

An undersized hustle big who can't shoot and is a poor defender, pass

I'd like Henson instead for sure.
