I also wouldn't mind him signing with someone else. His best days seem to be far behind him, I'd rather keep a slot open for additional flexibility.

The Clippers have hit home runs with every transaction this offseason until now, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Here's to hoping Patterson can regain his 3pt accuracy from 2017-18 (38.6%) at the very least.

Not sure which one of our beat writes was (Buva I think?), that was talking about with basketball being a year long sport now, and guys having to train 365, load management will be more important than ever, and thus it's not only important to be 2 deep at every position, but 3 deep too. Say, if we're gonna rest one or two guys in the rotation every game, I like Patterson being the guy that steps up as the back up PF when the back up PF is moved to a starting role. I don't mind Mfi having the same role at C, or Jerome at SG, or Mann at SF. They're all guys that I'm ok with having a role in the rotation, even if it's small and it's not every game.

This is an important point. Patrick Patterson had two lousy (maybe one; he was actually decent in 2018) years with OKC, but was a productive player for half a decade before that. Since he’s only 30, has never had conditioning or attitude issues, and is generally considered a smart player, I think the team is thinking/hoping the season or two were flukes related to team fit. But, more importantly, Patterson must have been made aware of his role and position on the Clips. He’s a backup PF on a team that is likely to use JaMychal Green and Mo Harkless, and occasionally Trezz Harrell, Paul George and Mfiondu Kabengele at the position. He has shown a willingness to play small ball C; we might need that. But the bottom line is that he’s likely to get most of his burn if injuries hit or in load management games. So, realistically, he’s looking at getting 15-25 mpg in maybe 20-25 games. Maybe. And in the other 60 games, he may get 5-15 minutes. He’ll probably have a lot of DNPs. Finding a guy with a good attitude that fits in with team culture and is willing to take that role is a big deal.

Pat Patt and PG are close from their time in OKC, and their significant-others are in business together with a line of bikinis.
