Duane Notice is pretty terrible. I appreciate how well he played in the game where they clinched a spot against Brazil, but he should be the easiest cut to make

chubbs715 wrote:Not really Team Canada related but just a theory on why many players have dropped out. After watching CJ McCollum's interview with Woj, I feel like a lot of players have the same mindset that their teams are the ones who are providing their hefty salary, so they would rather focus on the team than playing for the world cup. I'm sure team executives and staff members are also in some players' ears about looking for the team's best interests firsts. One of the biggest knocks on Yao Ming's career was his durability, which many critics blamed on his heavy involvement on China's team and international play, which led to him not being able rest during off seasons. While I do think players should take pride in playing for their country, I also don't think they should be criticized for looking out for their careers as well.
Well, this whole comment is captain obvious.

The first game in China against Australia will be decisive. Only the top two teams advance out of the group. I have no idea how competitive Senegal will be. Tacko Fall didn't make the cut there.

Tacko fall would have gotten in I think, but there was some kind of issue and they couldn't reach an agreement meaning all their nba guys are out. Senegal shouldnt be very competitive.

I think the game against Lithuania on Sep 3 may end up being the decisive one. (b/c I see that as being slightly more winnable than the game vs. Aus, and I see Aus as being more likely to finish 3-0).
In any case, assuming Senegal doesn't pull an upset, we likely only need to win one of those first two games to finish top 2. Even with the depleted lineup, I think this tournament may represent a better qualifying chance than the last-chance tournament would.

Such a long shot for Canada to qualify for Tokyo, but if that happens, Nurse will confirm his genius as coach.

Why didn’t Pangos play?

I'm sure that all our main guys are going to sit atleast one of these games, but i think Kaza, Best and Notice are all battling to make the team so maybe they wanted to give them and Nembhard some extended run.
I think with the way Kaza has played these last few games that he's going to have the inside edge over Best and Notice

Senegal announces final roster - lots of length. No NBA guys, but lots of Euro pros and former D1 players.

Canada not the only team with internal issues. Venezuela players on strike - even with their problems they'll still probably qualify as unlike Canada being in the group of death, they are in the group of mediocrity with China, Poland and the Ivory Coast ( who also may be on strike ).

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V2.0
My notes from the game;
Klassen has held his own. I knew very little of him going into the week. He's not bad. I think he will be key against Lithuania. We will need some size and strength to match up with them.
We need to find a way to get Wiltjer more looks. If he gets hot he can carry a long run himself. We can really keep defenses honest if we have Heslip and Wiltjer on the court at the same time.
Australia did not impress me. These guys are medal contenders. Half of our NBA guys show and we crush them.
Overall, I think there is still hope. We can't look past Senegal in our last game.

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V2.0
Attended both games with the mrs. and daughter, flew over to see the games and made a short holiday out of it.
First game was awesome KP played very well (very efficient) and was a calming influence on the team and he and Delly went at it all night long.
The highlight was when he blocked Lansdale right in front of us (more about that in a minute).
Wiltjer also played well and actually was pushing himself on defence. Given the lack of bulk/height in the Canadian lineup he was up against Landale and Ingles for most of the night and he got his shots.
The Canadian team as a whole really played well as a team and didn't seem at all intimidated by a NBA starting 5.
Owen Klassen really hung in there and gave he team good minutes
Patty Mills is so fast, and he and KP the best players on the floor. Ingles sure is a whiner.
During warmup for the second game I noticed quickly that KP wasn't out on the floor and was worried he might have injured himself.
As I was near the floor I spotted what looked like the Canadian media guy so I walked over and queried if KP was playing.
He said hat he wasn't and I asked if he was injured, mentioning that I had followed his career since he was in high school.
He said he was fine and If I wanted to speak to him he was walking right behind me (going to the Canadian bench), he called Kevin over and we had a 5 minute chat (which was really awesome). KP said that he was fine and that just having a rest as they had three more games next week.
Kevin said he couldn't remember his last block but it had been a while and I joked that he also owned Delly the night before and he grinned.
The second game was obviously much tougher, especially as the Canadian team had no Pangos or Joseph at the point.
Australia really ramped up the defence and where much more physical. This obviously disrupted the Canadian game plan, never letting them settle in to the half court. The international game is much rougher than young Nembhard is used to at Florida State. Many broken plays eventuated, this favoured the team with the better athletes.
Wiltjer just didn't get any clean looks in the second game, Kaza played well both games and I think he should have the last guard spot.
Still if you told me that Canada, without Kelly Olynyk and Cory Joseph, would split the two games in Perth I would have been very skeptical.
So all in all, 1 game each and having a great chat with a humble KP was a great result all round.

Pretty big news. He was going to be important for Australia. Might have been their best player in the last game vs. Canada

If you need a basketball hit - here's a pretty good matchup Greece vs Serbia at 11:00 A.M. Eastern.

Re: Team Canada Basketball Thread V2.0
i know this is just an exhibition game and all, but Greece is awfully disjointed, high number of turnovers and awful shooting %s, Serbia can't make any 3s, otherwise this game would've over a while ago.
