Spurs To Retire Tony Parker's No. 9 Jersey

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Aug 16, 2019 10:22 pm

The San Antonio Spurs will retire Tony Parker’s No. 9 jersey on Monday, Nov. 11.

Parker will become the 10th player in Spurs franchise history to have his number raised to the rafters, joining Bruce Bowen (12), Tim Duncan (21), Sean Elliott (32), George Gervin (44), Manu Ginobili (20), Avery Johnson (6), Johnny Moore (00), David Robinson (50) and James Silas (13).

In 17 seasons in San Antonio, Parker helped the Spurs capture four NBA championships and was named the 2007 NBA Finals MVP, becoming the first European Finals MVP in history.

First Spurs make a mistake of retiring Tim Duncan's jersey, then they messed up more and retired Ginobili's. As if two screw ups weren't enough, they're planning to retire Tony Parker's now? When will the Spurs learn?

Why was it a mistake to retire Duncan's? If there was ever a player to have his Jersey retired by a franchise it's Tim Duncan

Well deserved. Congrats Tony.

Tony had a fantastic career but imagine if he had played most of his prime in this current era.

lets remember the time when he cooked the entire miami dynasty by himself in 2013. especially during his late stages of his career. if it wasnt for ray allen, boy parker would of had two finals mvps

Lol Tim Duncan had a better career than Kevin Garnett, Kobe or Shaq but made less money career-wise because he basically left money on the table in every new contract he resigned with the Spurs for and never pursued off the court opportunities like major endorsements as much as those three. Lol Duncan apparently wore Adidas his entire playing career and I didn't even notice till I saw him wearing a pair sitting courtside at a game as a retired player. Since Kobe and Shaq played in much bigger markets like LA, Orlando and Miami most nba fans who know nothing about stats think they had a better career than Duncan if you look purely on stats, accolades and leadership - Duncan is one of the best in each category in nba history. He even had a better career than Hakeem Olajuwon. If Duncan had gotten a sixth ring which could have happened in 2011 not for a Ginoblli injury (where Spurs got upset in first round while Dallas won the title) or 2013 (one Chris Bosh rebound and Ray Allen 3 cost them the title) than he would be in the same 6 ring club as Jordan just with 3 less finals mvps. Or if Duncan won both those years he would create his own tier class in the 7 ring club.

A just reward for having a great attitude and playing through a thigh injury (like any franchise player would do). Congrats Tony!

They had very little history before their first title. The rafters would have looked pretty empty with just David Robinson up there. That said, those were Spurs guys.

Hard to remember something that didn't happen. I mean what...Tony Parker cooked the Heat? Tony Parker was a scrub in most playoff series including that one.

You're basically saying because the Spurs took the Heat to 7 games that it was because of Tony Parker.

If you’re trolling, great comment. If you’re not, please just do a very brief but if research on Tony Parker.
