It's Shams he's calling out. Shams "reported" yesterday that Lue is joining the Clippers staff. Stein reported that last week.

Eek. Does he have a history of doing this? That's poor form for sure.

Not excusing that in any way, but it's pretty amazing how much news Shams (appears to) break now. I think he's definitely become the go-to.

The NBA breaking news thing is such a weird world. I'm not a journalist so I don't know what the ethical responsibilities are--are you supposed to read the twitter feed of every other NBA reporter before you tweet? Or credit them after the fact and Shams hasn't despite it having been brought to his attention? Like what specifically is the nature of Stein's beef, what harm has been done here, and what is his expectation?

Maybe it's because I think these guys all break news and they're all worthy follows, and maybe it's because I think who got there first on the latest Clippers assistant coach is as who cares as it gets, or maybe I don't like when people take personal disputes to social media instead of to the person, or maybe it's the fact that there's a massive fire in the Amazon rainforest, but I'm just not sure I'm grasping the necessity of going out of your way to poke someone in the eye over this.

I mean, crediting people has always been a thing. It is indeed journalistic integrity and ethics. That said, yes, I imagine that Twitter has thrown a wrench into things. Many do credit others even in Tweets (e.g. "as first reported by xyz").

And no, it's not like a world crisis, but that seems rather random to throw into the ring. Basketball and sports in general pale in comparison to world issues, too.

Did Matt Velasquez confirm it before or after Sham's? If it was after, I can understand Shams not validating the original "Breaking News"

I'll give the MLB media credit, they consistently seem like they are on-top of crediting who breaks what story first (sometimes within a couple minutes).

He should @Shams then. There are like ten thousand dudes at the Athletic with different roles wide range of abilities, which is why he quickly apologized/backtracked.

He was great, but it was for such a short period of time - and he's been such a disappointment since then often with a blatant me-first attitude. Overall, he has not represented himself well off the court. I think his chances are very small.

If he doesn't make it, he'll lead all non-HoFers in total points and all-star selections.

Did you guys know LeBron has played exactly 100 more playoff games than Kevin Durant?

What ever happened to speaking directly to someone you have beef with instead of shouting it from the mountain top? I would blame twitter but it's an individual user's responsibility to determine how they want to communicate. I suppose we are all still learning how to use technology. I'm optimistic that 10 years from now we use social media more responsibly.

Stein may be right in this instance (idk if Shams has a history of this sort of thing), but in typical Marc Stein fashion, he's being petty as **** about it. Sorry if I don't exactly put tweeting already tweeted sports news in the category of intellectual theft and plagiarism.

Has anyone else been listening to the 30 for 30 podcast on the whole Donald Sterling fiasco? I found it absolutely fascinating.
