Re: Around the NFL Thread
Would've been the best name out there had the Patriots decided to do this (if they had a replacement) prior to the draft this year.

Probably was no better than the 5th guy up right now but I have not been looking forward to the process with him as a Niners fan. Unfortunately, there's KeeSean Johnson still there that concerns me a little bit, too.

I'll be curious to see what he got. I had been hoping he'd become available and would've been interested but he may have gotten more than what I'd have felt comfortable with as well.

Excellent move factoring in the time crunch of this move. I wanted him before he retired but he'd have been my first call in the event of another injury.
And to repeat another frequent argument of mine. I'm not big into proposing former players be brought on as coaches - most of the suggestions are somewhere between uneducated and guessing - but McCown is one of the rare guys I'd have had an interest bringing in with the intention of offering him a place in the organization - personnel or coaching - if it made sense and was desired by both sides. I think he's that good. I know he had signed up to be a part of ESPN so maybe he favors that over any other type of work but I'd want to find out if I had the ability to.
They waived Braxton Miller to make room for him. He spent this last year on their practice squad.
I'll have to admit I really got that one wrong. I was quite firm in my belief that I thought he could be pretty dangerous. The last straw for him with the Texans was when Bruce Ellington beat him out for his spot - another guy I advocated for being on someone's roster.
It's pretty telling how easily he's made it on teams to get rid of him but another thing I said about him before the draft was he was probably always going to be one of those guys that I'd want to be REALLY wrong on before giving up complete hope for him so a part of me would still want to give him another chance depending on what I found out from those who've been around him recently.
I don't know if I could completely advocate for him on the final roster, though. Maybe. At this point I'd EASILY take him over Trent Taylor, Kendrick Bourne, Shawn Poindexter, and Malik Henry. That I know for sure. I don't have any of those guys on my final roster wish list, though.
The final 6 WRs I would keep (if I can't make trades or suggest another name that hasn't been let go yet) are Pettis, Goodwin (I'm back and forth on his future with this team only because of Jimmy G), Hurd, Samuel, James, and Matthews.
Of those six, I'm only excited about Hurd and James for the future. I'm mildly excited about Matthews if I can keep him as back end depth. Pettis will eventually have to be replaced in my opinion. Goodwin depends on who is around him (head coach, QB, receivers coach). I'm in like - not in love - with Samuel the player (didn't love the value with the pick more than anything).
I'd have some questions for those who've worked with him before fully getting on board with making him one of the six but I would definitely look in to it.
Browns signed Braxton Miller today. Landry, Beckham, Rashard Higgins, Jaelen Strong, Antonio Callaway, Derrick Willies, Damion Ratley, Dorian Baker, Ishmael Hyman, D.J. Montgomery, and Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi round out their WR depth. Quite a few current and former popular names on that list for them.

A $6M/year average (likely less) - 43rd highest in the league (1 spot ahead of Amari Cooper for now). 2 spots behind Marquise Goodwin, who I wouldn't have minded replacing Grant with in one of my scenarios.
Where each stood when they both got their money:
Marquise Goodwin (through 4 seasons) - 39 games - 10 starts - 49 catches for 780 yards (15.9 avg.) and 6 TDs.
Jakeem Grant (through 3 seasons) - 42 games - 2 starts - 34 catches for 471 yards (13.9 avg.) and 4 TDs.

Not saying it's completely/mostly/partly related, but I'd just be curious to know how many of their regular starters are actually healthy now? And I know many other teams are trending in this direction anyway but still.

Report: Washington turned down first-rounder for Trent Williams
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/08/22/report-washington-turned-down-first-rounder-for-trent-williams/
Isaiah Wynn, projected to start at LT for them, just recently was cleared for team drills after his Achilles tear last year as a rookie. LG Joe Thuney worked some at LT early in minicamp when they had a complicated injury situation to Wynn and others.

In April they signed him to a 1-year extension through 2021.
Cap hits of 4.48M, 5.90M, and 3.70M.
Last year, his backup, Duron Harmon, was caught with 58 grams of marijuana in a can of ice tea, 3 pipes with oil, a THC candy and 4.3 grams compressed into four canisters while trying to enter Costa Rica. He was detained and sent back to the U.S.. He was not suspended.

Found in his house when an alarm was tripped and the police responded, apparently. I can't speak for NH law or general practices, but unless it was a pretty significant amount, I would expect the case to resolve for a misdemeanor. It's unlikely they make a possession for sales case or anything like that which would make it more serious (in CA, possession of cocaine is a misdemeanor unless it's possessed for sale). Depending upon the circumstances, he could fight it (presumably have to prove that he knew he possessed it), and there's a likely fourth amendment challenge (unlawful search and seizure). I wouldn't expect much of a consequence on the legal side of things, but he could see a suspension.

Somewhat surprising addition. They have a slew of young receivers (Christian Kirk, Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler, though he may miss some time, KeeSean Johnson, Chad Williams was a third rounder two years ago, Pharoh Cooper as a returner), and Crabtree is a bit reminiscent of Fitzgerald at this point. I guess they could easily keep seven receivers for that offense, though. We'll probably have four TEs/FBs. They might only keep two.
