Doc Rivers, Lawrence Frank offer insight into Clippers’ mindset with team considered a title contender
“It’s very rare when you’re adding franchise-changing guys where you can maintain the same personality of the team that you had last year,” said Frank, president of basketball operations. “Like, these guys, we fit them, and they fit us. They’re about all the same stuff that Doc’s about, that our group’s about – the hard-playing competitive, two-way players. They just want to play basketball, win and go home.
“Kawhi looked at our guys, like, ‘Yo, these guys fit me, you got a bunch of dogs.’ And who wouldn’t want to play with Paul George?”
Rivers said he doesn’t expect the Clippers will employ as “aggressive” a load management plan with Leonard as the Raptors did last season, when he sat out 22 of 82 regular-season games while recovering from a serious quadriceps injury, then led Toronto to the franchise’s first championship. Though Rivers added a caveat, “That’ll be played out by smarter guys than me.”
