I think defense and just the fan support is why they keep Delly around. Oh and him being vet min, or pretty close to it.

I'm just saying that Rudy would've been a very different movie if instead of ending it when they did, he was drafted by the Browns, was paid five times his market value, and took up a roster spot for half a decade because he was a fan favorite.

If Delly ends up wanting more than Vet min, which I don't think he'll get, then you let him walk. But as a vet min player, he's a good vet PG that plays hard defense to have on the roster.

Delly could remain in CLE if he is down with being out of the rotation most of the time but that doesn't fit his personality nor should it... I think he will move on unless the Cavs want him as the primary back up pg going into the 20-21 season where a reasonable 1- yr deal with a team option in year 2 would make sense for both parties.

Sounds right, but we'll have to see what the market looks like. Delly has really struggled to stay healthy and defenses figured him out years ago.

I think with the probability of not needing him going forward they would not offer him a deal, but I do think they will if he wants to come back and he can be useful as motivation for those not putting forth the effort like him etc.

That sounds like an assistant coach.

I think he is the type of dog this team needs more of , and when he earns minutes over rookies that need to add that to their game , they should be motivated by his being ahead of them etc.

If an end of a bench player on a very young team can act like an extra assistant, isn't that a good thing?

This year for sure I think Delly is a game to game match up rotation player, then if he isn't moved at the dl he probably has to morph into that role where pt is much more ltd for the sake of the tank and rookie development, which I am not sure Delly would be into really,(who would be) but if he is down with being a mentor it's probably worth the partially guaranteed roster spot for cheap if he can't get pt on another team and wants to stay under contract even if it means little to no pt.

I obviously like Delly and the 2015 Finals will always be part of Cleveland sports lore. That said, if I'm being brutally honest about where Delly is as a basketball player, he's a league-minimum third-string combo guard at best. I'm not entirely convinced he's still in the NBA if the Bucks didn't give him that contract. Young legs, great technique and maximum effort made his defense passable. But he's 28 now and he'll be 29 next summer. His stats, all of them, have been headed in the wrong direction since the 2015-16 season. Before he came back to our mess of a roster, he was only getting 8mpg on the Bucks.

Probably true he is never going to be as impactful as he was in a small attention role on a championship team much in the same way most average NBA role players are compared to impact when there is less talent around him. He does however still have plenty of intensity and motor to motivate his team and he does have the ability to disrupt offenses quite efficiently.

Aric Holman waived by Lakers... would be a solid pickup for the charge but id even consider a 2way deal if they already have every intention of moving more than 1 f/c at the dl.
solid skill as a 1st big off the bench guy
his role would be as a backup to Love as a stretch 4 w/ passable interior defense. He is not a great defender but has the athleticism to become one and given his outstanding 3 point shooting and cutting ability strikes me as another Beilein type guy.

I'm being cautiously optimistic on this. Just noticed that in the main World Cup that he's actually doing well even. 15pts/4 assists/2 reb vs the USA where they barely lost 93-92, though he shot like crap.

the odds cedi become a legit outside threat are not great but he has that streaky ability.
i much prefer him in a defensive specialist role as a starter or an initiator and ball handler off the bench that attacks the basket

I think giving up on even a replacement-level SF, before you have someone better, is a really good recipe for having a bad team in the NBA. I also think that Cedi is better than replacement level already. If Cedi were a good outside shooter, he'd be an all star.

Players need to be able to do something other than shoot to contribute because the guys who don't do anything else are straight negatives on the court when their shots aren't falling (and even the best shooters have those nights).

Defense, rebounding, and assists are all important if the goal is winning. Also, the Cavs aren't going to need role players to force shots given who've they've drafted. They've got four guys, five if you include Love, that can shoot. They need to balance the roster by having players who do the other things well around them.

Maybe we can stop playing Cedi at PF now?

Surprised not to see anything about Fred McCleod here. I wasnt happy about Reghi being replaced at the time but Fred did a very good job. Its a bit late but condolences to his family and the Cavs organization, he was a class act and will be missed.

So is KPJ working out with Delly side by side for a likely non starter backup role yr 1. or is he just talking in general from early reps how much of an impact Delly has mentally on top of his motor.
It's probably all of those things I guess, but I think by mid season we could definitely see KPJ in the Starting job depends on Beilein , as far as Delly though I could see him retained more likely than shopped for these same reasons
