RealGM Top 25 Player Poll-#25 2019-20

Post#1 » by Filthadelphia » Sat Aug 24, 2019 7:40 pm

Your favorite offseason debate is back by popular demand!
Thanks to everyone who voted last go around Im excited to see where the 2nd annual edition ends up.

Here's the Rules:
-Vote ONE player per poll. You'll be able to change your vote just like last year for those indecisive folks.
-The criteria of ranking the players is YOUR OWN. The whole point of bringing this to the GB is to attract the widest amount of votes/perspectives on the game as possible to form a true consensus. Some people value shooting over defense, team success over indivdual prowess etc. I want to bake all that in to this poll set no matter how chaotic.
-Each poll a player will win and then be taken out of the field. There will be 25 polls in all.
-There are only 10 possible poll options so I will start with the 10 guys who I personally believe will round out the top 10 in most people's eyes.
-As each poll commences I ask you to COMMENT IN THE THREAD your vote for who should be added in the next poll. There will be a large list of players yet to be added to the field below that you can look over to make your vote. I will tally up the votes in the comments at the end of each poll and add the winner accordingly. For example, if you want Marc Gasol added in the next poll just comment "Marc Gasol" or "Gasol".
-If a poll is overwhelmingly skewed towards one guy I will try, time willing, to edit it early and move on to the next one.
-If there is a tie in the poll. There will be a run-off poll created with just the tying parties to determine a winner. The losers of the runoff will then be added back into the field of 10 for the next poll.
-Feel free to ask any questions via pm or comment
-Feel Free to comment on your reasoning for a pick and why

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE FOR PARTICIPATING!!!!

Voted Klay. Would rather have a half-year of him than the partial year you’ll get out of Dipo or injury-prone CP3 or a full year of Donovan Mitchell.

After Pascal and Lowry I'm assuming Gasol will get this #25 spot

I'm voting 25-5-5 in his second half of his sophomore year Donovan Mitchell.

These CP3 votes are crazy he'll play 60ish games.

But but but he put up great advanced stats playing against 2nd units. Whaaa go Raps go CP3.

While Donovan Mitchell has already done as much as Gordan Hayward and is going into his second season.

Klay got too late onto the list: He is the best player on this list (except Durant who wasalready ruled out for next year)

CP3

Close call with Mitchell because CP3 will probably miss games. Still went with him though.

He'll miss more than half of the season, that factors in. If it didn't, Oladipo would've been picked ages ago.

Is Klay gonna play 600 minute this regular season?

He’s in the Durant boat for me.

I still think it should be Mitchell. Again, I'm projecting an efficiency bump. He was a lot better once he seemed recovered from the foot injury (which I think people forget about). January was right about when he seemed fully there:

January: 28/4/5 (56.6% TS) 15 games
February: 25/5/5 (50.4% TS) 9 games
March: 25/4/4 (56.9% TS) 15 games
April: 28/4/6 (61.4% TS) 5 games

Compare to the first three months of the season:
October: 23/2/4 (54.0% TS) 7 games
November: 21/3/3 (51.0% TS) 12 games
December: 18/4/3 (47.3% TS) 14 games

I think the only players who could carry an offense in a comparable way that are remaining are:
Oladipo (injured)
Thompson (injured)
DeRozan
Vucevic

And we've already seen Paul (as great as he is) slow down significantly + he always misses a ton of games. With the extra spacing and having been able to go through full workouts in the offseason, I expect Mitchell to be more like the player he was for the last 44 games of the year.

Cp3 played in 60 games last year and your using his numbers in a cherry picked fashion. Wheas Donovan your just using his straightup stats.

Even in cumulative regular season stats that account for minutes played, Paul still wins.

Paul: 6.6 WS, 2.4 VORP, 9.17 RPM wins
Mitchell: 5.0 WS, 1.7 VORP, 8.70 RPM wins

And Paul's a much, much better individual defender and much, much better postseason performer who's going to look even better when he's out of James Harden's shadow.

Personally, I'd rather have a top 15 player available for the playoffs 80% of the time than a top 40 player available for the playoffs 90% of the time. At least the higher ceiling guy gives you a chance to win something.
