I think he'll have a solid year and be a solid player. The type of player any playoff team would love to have.

The problem is his contract. He's never going to be worth it and his contract vs play will continue to be an issue and a source of criticism. Good news it's only 2 more years and he's off the books when they need to pay Tatum. It also might be tradeable if needed the last season.

If we hadn't brought in yet another score-first PG there might've been more of a chance for him to be more than a role player, but as it is -- despite getting rid of Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier -- we still have too many wings who want to score for Hayward to be more than the default distributor. Unless there's a significant injury to one of those guys, in which case, for the first time since we signed him, I'll be glad we have him.

When we signed him, we didn't know how good Tatum was going to be. But there will never be enough room for those two plus Jaylen Brown IMO, let alone score-first PGs.

I just hope we don't trade him for Kevin Love ever. If we can pump up his value and deal him for score-first PF Blake Griffin though I'd be hype. More realistically, he has an Evan Tuner-like year and we're back here next year wondering the same thing:)

Expectation? Much better than last year. Not sure he will get to 20 ppg in boston, but I would expect the same efficiency, shooting and bet his athleticism will return to jazz form.

Serious answers please. Looking at how PG bounced back, I'm really curious to what Gordon will look like this season.

Didn't George look a lot better, a lot earlier? Not saying it's over for Gordon, he is, what, 29? But still, just because George managed to come back and have a peak season last year, doesn't mean Hayward can get anywhere close to his best. It is a huge enigma, but I am rooting for him.

Solid third/fourth option.

If he can be a consistent shooting threat, it would do wonders for their isolation heavy guys. But considering the contract he has....I don't think he'll ever be worth 70% that.

Wasn't it obvious when Gordon Hayward was added that by drafting Tatum and Brown, the Celtics overloaded the small forward position?

Why did so many people overrate this guy? He was never that good to begin with.

George looked awful in the 5-10 games he played to close the season, and then had a full offseason to figure things out and work out at full contact. Hayward wasn’t cleared for full contact 5on5 until like September right before the season started. This is his first full, healthy offseason to get things going again mentally and physically.

That's what I am thinking. I thought it was somewhat interesting the dynamic between Hayward and Taytum/Brown. It seems like the latter don't really respect him and Hayward cannot demand respect from them. At the end of the day, Hayward might have a few good games here and there, but in most important games, Kemba would be the go to option in the 4th quarter sprinkled in with few Taytum isos. And I see Hayward being ignored in the crucial moments in the game and him being too beta to do anything about it.

He's a 6'8 guy who can handle the ball and averaged around 20-5-4 3 seasons in a row before his injury. Thats a very good player.

Panic610 wrote:What's everyone expectation of Hayward's upcoming season? He'll be two seasons removed from that horrific injury and another year in Brad Steven's system. Do you seem him getting back to his pre-injury form? And if he does, where does that put Boston in the east ?

It seemed to be a popular opinion that his injury would take 2 years to truly heal, so I fully suspect that he’ll be a lot better this coming season than he was last season. However I’m not sure he’ll get back to his Pre-injury form.
