Not sure why they would. Just wait them out. They'll die on their own.

Would you go and see a new Star Wars movie in the cinema? I would, the subscription will be about the same price and I'll pay it to at least take a run through the first season of The Mandalorian.

Ok fine, maybe I could justify it by swapping it out for a month with one of my other subs.

Right now I have Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, and HBO and can't imagine anything else cracking that rotation.

Well, somebody's going to get that catalog.

It’s all about content. While Netflix has a few duds they have tons of content. That’s worth billions.

That's true, and yeah, clearly that's worth something. I think Netflix is in pretty big trouble though in the grand scheme of things.

There is so much content out there with so many providers that some writers/actors are giving regular networks another look. They feel some good stuff is getting buried and they will stand out more with networks that have less content. We'll see. I watch very little episodic TV on the regular networks.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

If you kids are interested in the business of all these streaming thing-a-ma-jigs, I'd recommend adding Recode Media to your podcast list. Peter Kafka is a great journalist, gets great guests and covers media technology.

Wonder if they'd merge with Hulu? Amazon or Google might get in there to bid as well. Amazon Prime is ok but they need more content.

Hulu is now owned by Disney as part of the Fox acquisition.

I feel like Disney + is probably more of the final nail in traditional cables coffin than something that will kill Netflix.

Netflix's debt will kill Netflix unless what they provide ends up being enough to justify a much higher subscription fee. Think there's consumer surplus there but I don't think it's enough for them to be profitable considering the big ticket non-native content they've been bleeding.

Watched the first two seasons of Stranger Things and I have to say, I think it's pretty overrated. I think it would sit better with me if almost everyone I know didn't talk it up.

Anybody watch Dark on Netflix? My Dad has been raving about it and I watched the first four episodes of Season 1 last night, really really good.

I see Dark brought up a good amount here and on the Media Lounge board. At some point I'm gonna have to check it out. Everyone seems to love it.

Really liked it. Especially after I realized you can find family tree charts online that really helped keep track of the characters.

I’m trying to watch it without consulting a family tree, we’ll see how far I can make it.

I like the idea of printing out a family tree and putting it on a clipboard that I can pass back and forth between my family.

Code: Select all

o- - -  \o          __|
   o/   /|          vv`\
  /|     |              |
   |    / \_            |

Right on. I was just getting too lost on how certain people linked together and losing the plot at times as I tried to figure **** out.

If you do break down and check be careful what you look at since some out there were made after season 2 so do have some spoilers for how some people link together.
