Re: Woj: LaVert signs 3 year extension
Good for him and good for Brooklyn in the sense that barring another injury he was likely getting more in free agency.
Would seem to almost guarantee a max or near that for Jaylen Brown being on the table from 1 team with another wing off the board.

Someone will regret that IMO. IMO Brown still has to prove he’s good. Rough offensive feel - handles/BBIQ.
But I fear the point for Hield/BOgi of overpaying due to this paltry upcoming market

This feels like a smart gamble for the nets. If he works out, he's great value at that price.

I feel like this will either turn out terrible or be one of the best bargains in the league.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

Great deal for the talent level but his injury history is scary.

Both sides have mitigated the risk a bit , with the Nets getting a discount on his talent level and Levert getting guaranteed money in case he breaks down again.

Someone will overpay Jaylen Brown based on his potential IMO. There's too much free agent money out there and not enough talent to take it.
In regards to LaVert, the deal is an overpay based on his past production and health history (dating back to college), but an underpay based on what he has done during the best runs in his career. When he's at his best, he's a borderline all-star level, do it all type of guard. But he has struggled to stay healthy, playing only 162 out of 246 NBA games and when healthy, consistently play at that level (which in part might be due to missing time).
All in all, the move makes sense for both sides as LaVert secures a life changing payday for himself and his family. Sure, if he came back and took that next step he could have been looking at an extra year, and maybe close to if not the max. But, given his history, I completely understand why he would want to avoid any risk. Another injury and/or down year and he could be looking at a mid level deal.
From Brooklyn's standpoint, it seems like good value. And since their cap is pretty much tied up over the life of the deal, the downside risk is minimal.

Re: Woj: LeVert signs 3 year extension
LeVert people, no "a".
I love this deal. I was nervous he was going to be offered a major deal next summer the way things were shaking out. Nets are gonna be a tax team for the foreseeable future, and now they have a tough decision on Harris this summer and then Allen and Dinwiddie next.
Also, I don't know if he is trade bait necessarily. He was Marks' first draft pick and has become a poster boy of the turnaround as he was here from the start of Marks' tenure. He's close with Durant as well.

There's really no one left to chase next summer.

If he plays well, the Celtics aren't letting him go anywhere.

Siakam - though he's getting a max period
J.Brown - I think Boston may balk at major offers
Hield - I think he's a lock to stay but..
Bogdan - I cant see them keeping both
Ingram - most volatile name here
Sabonis - odd fit w/Turner and may not be extended ahead of time
All the restricted guys...
Still has AD, Lowry, DD and Harrell.

they are already overpaying kemba on the max, gordon on a huge deal, and Tatum will command a huge deal. I dont think they can match a max/near-mx to brown when they already have a logjam on the wing, they are in dire need of bigs, and cant realistically pay the tax for a team that wont be a contender

Hayward has 1 year left and would expire by the time Tatum got paid. If Boston isnt prepared to match a gigantic deal for Brown, they’ll trade him.
Also, Kemba isnt overpaid.

Besides this summer, where they've let Kyrie get to free agency, who has Ainge not paid who he should have?

I think Brown has proved his worth a decent amount, at least as much as a one and down third year player could. He's showed up in the playoffs both years, not too many soph lead their team to one game of the finals putting up 18/5. He's also shown to be a good defender/transition player at the very least. I can't see Bojan getting overpaid, he had a solid rookie season but as a "shooter" posted a 53 ts last season. You can usually find vetran shooting cheap on the market. Hield is another story as he's on another level.
