I'm adamant that with all these scoring threats like Embiid, Horford, Richardson and Tobias out on the court with him I just don't see Ben taking an open jumper 10 seconds into a shot clock whilst wide open.... like every one of those guys would. It's just not in his makeup and I can't see an Alpha dog like Embiid being happy with watching the ball go over his head all the time without him touching it.

I can see the only jumpers Ben will take are those turnaround ones with less than 5 seconds left on the clock. I still think Brett Brown should draw up some actual plays that involve Ben getting open for a jumper. Not because he needs a play to get open... but so that it reinforces in Ben and every teammates mind that he is going to shoot a jumper. It should instill some confidence in him which is the most important thing he needs at this point. Hell for all I care BB can only call the play whilst up by 10 or something but at least it forces him to be unselfish... because I get the feeling Ben will never call his own number.

So will he be a better shooter than Giannis next season?

Agree with this to an extent. Not sure I buy Jo not wanting him to shoot. He's pretty unselfish but wants to win. He knows it's in the teams great interest for Ben to be a threat.

He shouldn't be. He is in his 3rd season and probably his 1st year shooting the ball (If he does).... but Giannis has been in the league 6 years and took 200 x 3 pointers last year and only made 25%. Yikes. I'd like to think if Ben took 200 legitimate 3's he would do better than 25%.

I think his mid range can translate given he’s hitting them with confidence being defended. Would be interesting if Brett would allow those shots.

Comparing it with Hood’s frequency and makes, I dont think he’s making that much but it sure is progress.

I guarantee you it's not going to be Brett who is going to tell Ben not to take mid range or 3 point shots. I feel that is reserved more for players who have no conscience and will take whatever shot they can get. Ben is different, he needs to confidence. To tell Ben that he's not ready yet, is only going to stifle that confidence. They need to be nurturing him and letting him know that he can be vulnerable on the court, and that the team is will to give up a few points, runs, or games, so that Ben can develop. Unless he's taking them in game he's not going to improve. I see no sense in letting him keep doing that in practice, but not in a real game.

I believe he is a perfectionist who has a revulsion against not being good at something ie shooting. Perhaps he needs to let go of that for the good of the team, but I think it is a real wrench for him given how he functions/is built generally.

Those turnaround/stepback mid range jumpers were mostly what Kawhi was killing us with in the Finals (apart from 1 game where he couldn't miss a 3). If you can hit them consistently while being defended you can't be stopped really.

Are you serious? this is blasfemy, midrange jumpers in 2019? analytics say midrange shot is inefficient, it has to be either a layup or a 3pt shot. One needs to follow the current trend of 3pt spamming, not the other way around.
Great takes since 2024-04-20

Really hope Ben comes out in the first few games and hits a couple jumpers, it will give him greater confidence going to the line and hitting his FTs

Anyone who acts like we've seen this stuff before from Ben in the off-season is being deliberately obtuse.

We've seen nothing like this in previous years.

You do realize that doing 100,000 free throws takes more than 24 hours so its physically impossible to do.

It will take you around 28 hours to shoot 100,000 freethrows if it takes one second to shoot one.

Yes. We can start by changing zhaire and Ben’s position on that picture.

Pretty sure Ben was standing on a higher ground
