He's played well in most all the games he got a lot of minutes. Just probably tougher to have to jump into the starting role against starters and adjust. He did fine against backups for the most part.

Neither of our rookie PGs have played much and they are both sure to have their ups and downs. I'm glad Melton finally came alive after being so bad.

:-? Not to my eyes. I've liked Melton from the jump. I know you'll spout stats, which is weird given the frequency of discussion about sample size around here.

I am the mayor of Melton Island and I look forward to seeing all the asylum applications from Okobo Island in the next couple weeks. Either I'm ridiculous, or y'all are.

You're right, he hasn't played that much so playing poorly didn't matter much, even if you felt he played well. His only game before the last one with a substantial number of minutes he shot 3-12 and 1-6 from 3. But even if you just look at ORTG and DRTG by month, you can see Oct and Nov were not pretty.

Oct Net Rtg a -55
Nov a little better at -29
Dec much better at +32

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/meltode01/splits/2019

No doubt last game by him was the best by either of them, however it was mostly after getting down by 30 when the Kings had let the foot off the gas and played down their bench.

I don't know if you are on an island. A lot of people high on Melton and a lot high on Okobo. Kerrsed was high on Melton and a number of people on twitter, like Max from 7SOL pod.

It's not like you are on the Derrick Jones Jr island again thinking he was our future SF or some of the other hot takes.

My only worry about Melton was his shooting and turnovers but those were not issues the last game so hopefully he keeps it up.

Yeah but poor defense though and overall negative net rating. He might have billions of fans already and he might be able to walk on water but he doesn't play like he wants it

I mean, I was certainly wrong about DJJ, but IIRC you were quite high on Josh at first, whereas I was a Josh hater pre-draft (not so much by the end of last season, however). DJJ may very well remain > JJ. :( I liked Ulis a lot, too. Learned a lesson with that one. I was one of the very few who liked neither Bender nor Marquese pre-draft. I liked Sabonis and the Murrays, primarily.

We'll see about DM. I think the eye test isn't as subject to the "small sample size" objection as stats are. I remember saying nice things about him the night he went 3-12 or whatever. Thought the shots were close, taken confidently, with a consistent form, and he expected them to go in (unlike JJ, for example). The way he moves, makes decisions, etc.

Yeah, I kind of like JJ pre draft, though I slightly leaned Isaac at draft time. I remember you liking Zach Collins. I did like Bender and Chriss (though Chriss more at 13 as kind of a boom/bust pick) and knew it would likely take Bender 3 or 4 years which is why I don't like picking up his option after he was a fine shooter last year as a 19 year old 7 footer. Oh well.

I do remember you comparing JJ to MJ after drafting somehow after you got really high on him.

I mean, I liked Okobo in the draft and the only reason I wasn't particularly high on Melton is that he was terrible shooting in college, the G league and his only action in the NBA until his last game. He also was very turnover prone.

If he really can shoot and take care of the ball, he has very high upside. We will see how his shooting and taking care of the ball continues. I hope he does well.

Okobo obviously had a rough time in his first start but I admire that he stayed afterwards and was still there 45 minutes after when Gina left while all the other players left.

I come in peace.

What’s your guys opinion of Okobo? Was high on him and drafted him in my dynasty league.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I like him a lot and liked him during a draft..he's been in the G league which seemed to help Melton who came in raw and bad to begin with, so I expect when Okobo to come back he will look better too. He looked better than Melton early, but Melton has looked much better after getting back from G league...better than Okobo did or he did earlier by quite a long shot.

I think Igor does a good job getting the best out of his guys and developing them pretty rapidly.

You can see talent but you can also see he's pretty new to playing point and needs reps. Gleague is the place for him right now. Play a ton and work through mistakes. Melton is simply more physically ready and can bring it on d.

I'm not as high on Okobo as some on the Suns board but I do recognize he could project into a very good guard in tomorrow's NBA. He's long, he's switchable (if his defense becomes legit), he already has a nice shooting stroke and has some nice scoring ability and he just needs more experience running point in the NBA and with other basic skills (ball-handling, passing).

I think this season would've been good opportunity for him to work on his scoring ability imo. His scoring/shooting is further advanced than his playmaking so I think it would have been good to let him take his best skills to an NBA level and then slowly work on his playmaking over time.

After 5 G League Games here are Okobo's #s

Per Game:

Pts 19.4
Ast 7.4, TO 3, Ast/TO 2.47
Reb 4.2
Stl 1

FG% 39.5%
3PT% 32%

TS% 51.4%
PER 15.9

ORTG 105.2
DRTG 120.1
Net rRtg -14.9

Compared to Melton's 5 games:

Per Game

Pts 17
Ast 5.4, TO 5, Ast/TO 1.08
Reb 7.2
Stl 1.2

FG% 39.3%
3PT% 23.5%

TS% 45.9%
PER 11.47

ORTG 89.5
DRTG 107.4
Net Rtg -17.9

So, different players as we know, based on what they did in G league in same # of games. Elie a lot more efficient, but not still not efficient enough.

Elie the better passer, and turns it over less...far better ast/to ratio

Melton the better rebounder and better defender.

Due to defense, Melton works as long as he doesn't shoot too much, or handle it to much leading to lots of turnovers...just focuses on D and rebounding.

As soon as one of the two gets their shot to start falling we should be in decent shape. I've been happy with both of them considering they're rookies drafted in the 2nd round.

thanks for the video...I love Okobo… he had a rough first year but I mean it was expected he was a combo guard that is switching to PG full time. He has all the skills to be good. Im glad he is working out like bridges instead of getting arrested like some of our players... We have seen in flashes what Okobo can do...what he needs is CONFIDIENCE. I think last season with Igor he was so focused on getting the team involved (which isn't a bad thing) that he took away from his own game by passing up wide open shots.

He is a hard worker and I think has the ability to be a starting PG in this league. Only thing Im worried about is him getting buried behind other players. Keep workin Okobo 8-)

Elie Okobo is called to play the end of the preparation with France.
He will be on concurence with Albicy and Ntilikina for a position
