If melo had not supported lin during that rn, he would of been out of the NBA by 2014. He should thank Dantoni, Kncicks and city of NY for making him a millionaire.

*As an aside: how many players have gone to China and then returned (successfully) to the NBA? For example, I would consider Wilson Chandler a decent example here...

Not many. Aside from the obvious- players go mainly there when they can no longer play in the nba, or never really could- The CBA isn't really a good place to get better. The talent level is low. They can only have 2 white or black guys on the team and one Taiwan guy. The coaches on every team except GuangZhou tell their players to just pass to the foreign guy every time. It's a joke. Lin's game was never to score 40 a night, but it is now. Is that really going to help him help an NBA team come playoff time? He will get his confidence up, that's for sure. But unless a team really needs scoring from the 1 spot and is out of options, I don't see a good fit.

Which is exactly why this move isn't "the nba has kind of given up on me" but "ive kind of given up on my nba career" he should have been stateside knocking on doors all offseason, working out with teams/ guys etc. instead he jets for his summer long asian tour...and complains publicly...wow, what a championship celebration....

Hell be huge in china, not 40 per game, but a triple double machine. They'll say he's China's westbrooke blah blah blah....noone will watch and he wills stay in China and be a huge star.

Like marbury did...his new coach.

Now take that view, and imagine yourself being handed a playoff bonus cheque of $300,000+ for your trouble.

Did he even play though? I think a ring where you can say you played a role (in the gams) no matter how counts. But, a ring for being on the roster is like a ring for being on the staff. Is he really gonna wear that ring around (china) town?

I think that's the question that only people like us, who've never won a ring, have to ask each other. As time passes the importance will obviously subside for him more than the guys who contributed, but at the moment when the buzzer sounded and they're all celebrating in the locker room, there's no way he was thinking about the minutes he didn't play or the points he didn't score. At the very least, being able to share that kind of experience with friends (Danny Green) & colleagues (everyone else) is something very few people get a chance to do.

Its a bit harsh to say that he didn't earn it. Even if he wasn't playing, he could have been lending moral support, he was there during practices and other behind the scenes team activities that we do not see. We cannot measure whether any of them deserve the ring just because he didn't play. Now I don't know exactly how helpful he was behind the scenes, but we can't just outright say that he didn't deserve it. Maybe he did and maybe he still didn't.

Lin had a steal, some rebounds and assists, and he knocked down one of two threes and four for four from the line in the playoffs, so technically, he actually played. Not only that, had the Raptors had an injury, he would have had to step into big minutes, and no one can say he wasn't ready to produce if that opportunity presented itself. If the Raptors didn't think they needed him, he wouldn't have been on the roster for the playoffs. He earned it. I don't even see why this is being discussed. Team depth is usually seen as a plus, and most players get their credit on championship teams, but for some reason Lin isn't getting the same respect.

He said it. Jeremy lin said it in Taiwan. No one else said it. There are lots of memes. I saw more jeremy lin with the trophy/carmelo memes than i did "getting an A on a class project...without doing anything" memes... a lot more. So drop your straw man. He left brookyn to rehab elsewhere,he split from the hawks...and he left during free agency and complained about the nba "giving up on him" really? Who gave up on who? Enjoy the ducks in beijing theyre quite tasty.

Harvard graduate with incredible journey from fringe 2nd round player, to darling of NYC basketball.
Journey to various teams on long term deals - steady improvement along the way.
While injured with the Nets, wins championship with Toronto.

The NBA has only 450+ players in the world -- to be one is an incredible honor. He has opened the door up for many future generations of players from all walks of life.

Here is to wishing J. Lin an incredible continuation of of this journey.

He had good stats on ATL, enough to score a decent contract.

Playing with the Raptors exposed his inability to defend and consistently hit threes... The two biggest reasons why they won a title. He couldn't even come close to breaking into that rotation. It exposed him, and left him without a contract.

He's the first Asian American to win a ring, so it was all worthwhile. I'd take the ring despite what happened. Anytime, one gets a chance to get a ring they have to go for it. It takes some luck to win it regardless and Lin still has that. He hit it big with Linsanity with the Knicks and Carmelo. I have to agree on being exposed, why he didn't play as much during the playoffs, and it leading to weak interest this season.
