It wasn’t ‘till he came back at the end of the ‘12 ECFs that he showcased that he’s been working on it hard and from there on out he started launching from deep with regularity. Prior to that though, him and LeBron worked just fine.

So 1) AD can improve his 3pt shot, which he already takes with regularity, and 2) hypothetically, if you want to assume he won’t shoot any with LeBron on the floor with him, liken him to a much better Ilgauskas, whom LeBron had great chemistry with.

the game was different back in '11 and '12, shooting 3's wasn't that important compared to today. Lebron also was in his prime in '11 and '12, Lebron in 2019 is 2 years away from retirement.

Lebron had great chemistry with Ilgauskas, so what? They didn't win a title

Pretty sure Lebron will play at least 4 more yrs. And Big Z isnt in the same company of a Bosh or Davis at all man.

Sigh, no one’s saying Z’s on their level. It was an extreme example to say, “no 3, no problem”, under the notion that AD wouldn’t shoot 3s while still having chemistry with Lebron a la Z.

The Clippers are the best team in the NBA, and both their superstars shoot 3s, and are not even close to being 'twin towers' :o

It's not possible to be the "best team in the NBA" during the off season. :banghead:

Who is? Why are they favored by nearly everybody if it's this obvious they aren't?

Its fairly easily the Warriors with a Klay coming back at 99%.

Even excluding the Dubs, getting Kawhi and PG was a start but that doesn't making them the clear favorite over anyone not named the Warriors. I wouldn't trade the Lakers roster for the Clippers for example. Lebron is still the best player in the league and in a playoff series between both rosters, the Clippers would fold.

People are just naming the Clippers because they are now associated with Kawhi and everyone has recency bias. Probably the most fortunate star with a ring in the last 10 years.

AD can space the floor reasonably well with his mid range game. The offense might get clunky when Dwight/JaVale enter the game though

Most of these odds you’re posting favouring the Lakers are pre-Cousins’ injury, and before anyone says “he was going to be useless this upcoming season”, the odds are he wasn’t, based off of the fact that when he came back during the regular season, he was playing very well as a legit non-option. Factor in a summer healing up after he was playing injured in the Finals when he came back, and the odds are he was going to prove quite useful next season.

If anything I would say cocky. Clips built that team without any big shortcuts besides sacrificing their future. Lakers could def win a Championship but it could bite them in the ass just as much

I don't know exactly how much they sacrificed their future. I think it depends on how the next 2-3 years play out. If both PG/Kawhi are remotely healthy and re-sign and Clips are legit contenders for 5 years... giving up 28th pick in the draft for a few years is a small price to pay. Then it basically becomes if SGA is good enough to anchor a contender. If either guys bolt, or careers fall apart due to injuries, skyrocketing those picks... then yea they lost the gamble most likely. A ring or two will make it all worth it though. That's my personal hope for the team. 2 rings in the next 5-6 years or so would be good enough for me.

Unless the team completely implodes next season I would be stunned if PG or Kawhi leave. The health concern is much bigger, and I think you're overly optimistic on 2 rings. KD + the 73-win Dubs only managed 2, and the league has more parity while the Clippers core isn't as healthy.

But let me speak as a Raptors fan for a moment: if you win a title those picks won't hurt anywhere near as much. There's nothing like that first title. Especially after years and years of futility.

It would be shocking if the Clippers can't win at least one title barring their serious injury woes.

They might be the pre-season favourite, but they’re certainly not even close to a Golden State 2016-19 level or favourite, and there are many other teams who are on or close to their level and also have a solid chance to win the title. We also need to remember that the Clippers have played zero games together as a team thus far.

Don’t get caught up in dumb stuff like this, nothing ends up making people look more foolish than arguing over pre-season predictions. Predictions are meaningless.

I agree they aren't HEAVY favorites by any means, nonetheless.. to deny the validity to them being favored seemed odd for that guy to do.
