My grandma moved into assisted living last year. What are your questions?

Well first thing we gotta do is convince my dad it's the right thing to do for he and my mom. I'm wondering if anyone has a sales pitch they've used that worked. My dad more or less has said he'd rather die than move into a nursing home but my mom's health is pretty bad and she needs round the clock attention.

I can't really help with a sales pitch because my grandma has Parkinson's and just kind of knew that she couldn't do everything required that would let her live alone.

And assisted living and nursing homes are two completely different things. Assisted living is still fairly independent living with your own apartment. The assisted living place my grandma is in is basically the same as the apartment she was in except now they come and give her her medication and they provide meals in a dining room for their residents (she still has a kitchen in her apartment if she doesn't want to go to the dining room, except there's no oven in there.)

Yes I know that assisted/senior living is way different than a nursing home but my dad doesn't think that. I really just need him to go take a tour. I know some places have little townhomes with yards and gardens that you can take care of. His idea is that you sit in a room all day and watch tv and they bring you meals at 4pm. Anyone know of a few places like this in the Milwaukee area? I did some work at Plymouth Place near Chicago which has houses you can live in, then when you get older you can move to an apartment, and then they have wards for hospice and dimentia....so if one spouse is really sick the other is only an elevator ride away.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

This is the place my grandma is at. They have activities and trips all the time. They have a bunch of birds in a small aviary upstairs and a couple of guinea pigs too.

Mateen Cleaves was acquitted of sexual assault from an act 4 years ago. Here's some coverage:

I don't know what really happened, but I don't know what I'd do if I took some woman* to a motel room and she ran off without any panties. I'd probably try to get her back in the room.

*this is purely hypothetical, because I don't believe in random hookups.

I survived but had to play 30+ minutes and had a guy half my age and bigger/more athletic guarding me. Sore as hell. Got blocked/stripped a few times when I had to jump off my right or both feet and could't get around anyone going right but I went into shoulder first mode on the youngster and even he even attempted flopping a couple of times. (kids these days) Got a few and-ones on post moves and fast breaks and made a heap of FTs. :D

On that note my 6 year old has started training one night a week at the local stadium and I've been at the other end of the court practicing for an hour at a time. Turns out all I needed to go from a lifetime 55-60ish FT% shooter to automatic was 5 minutes practice a week for 4 weeks. :D

This recipe turned out great: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/236503/jerk-chicken-wings/

I want to make a huge batch of the seasoning and have it ready to slather on any chicken at a moments notice, but I'm not sure how well it would keep.

I was very careful and cut out most of the capsaicin storing white parts of the habanero peppers, so the heat was there, but it wasn't over powering.

Damn. That recipe looks incredible. Thanks. I'm gonna make that this week but on the grill instead of the oven.

Yup. On the other hand, if a woman is running from a room screaming for help that's some seemingly damning evidence but apparently not. Heck, the cops drove him home. And a witness who came to the cops that night saying the girl told her what was going on. I didn't know this tril was happening and can't speak to in depth or with certainty or anything, but the bits I read/saw yesterday made me think how the F did he not get convicted.

I guess we're all having jerk chicken wings this weekend.

Only items I need to add to my shopping list are some onions, habanero peppers, fresh thyme, and fresh nutmeg. I've got everything else ready to go.

They're apparently sold out nationwide until October.

I can't really help with a sales pitch because my grandma has Parkinson's and just kind of knew that she couldn't do everything required that would let her live alone.

And most of the better ones require at least two years of private pay before they’ll take title 19 money. The pitch, to me, is going to a place of their choice where they could move to different levels of care as needed, if that makes sense? Instead of having no options really and going somewhere they don’t really want to go. I’m not really an expert but my grandparents have gone through this whole process.

Feel free to DM if you ever want to talk more.

I'm sure there may truly be some logistical issues going on there and too much demand, but this is a nice way for them to generate a 2nd wave of insanity as well.

I grilled mine. Marinated for 6ish hours. Came out great. I wish I would've been a bit more coordinated and basted them as I cooked in the leftover marinade, but it was a busy ass tailgate :)
