I don't think the JJ Redick, Jimmy and Horford combo was possible. JJ Redick and Jimmy Butler's capholds were too high and filled up too much capspace to afford anyone over 20 million per.. I think the plan was Horford, Harris and Richardson OR Horford, Harris and Redick.

Yeah id say it was either Redick or Richardson.

Personally I still think the best version of the team would have been last years starters + the bench we have now but with an MLE guard instead of Neto or Burke, but I’ll admit that there may have been financial or personal reasons that may have not been realistic. Current group is better than the one that ended the season which is really what matters.

I think the upgrade at SG will be most notable. JJ was relied on too much on offense and his defense was not good. Richardson will really be a nice change.

Al Horford’s mid range shooting numbers is elite. He made 2 3s per game on 40% 3pt% in the playoffs.

In terms of spacing, Al Horford’s spacing is a huge upgrade compared to Jimmy.

Sure he averaged only 13ppg. But the spacing he brings on offense and being a reliable back-up C for Embiid is huge.

Even though Horford is a better shooter and more likely to attempt a catch-and-shoot 3 than Butler, I don't think Horford can be viewed as a "floor spacer". He can make the 3, but he isn't so consistent that teams feel the need to guard him out there and stretch their defense.

Yeah it's kind of odd comparing Horford and Jimmy - the starting lineup is really huge.

Horford is much more willing to catch and shoot.

16% of Jimmy's shots last season were catch and shoot jumpers

48% of Horford's shots last season were catch and shoot jumpers

What % of Jimmy's shots were squandered no lift in the legs layups and half drives going nowhere?

Seemed quite high as I recall whilst face palming throughout the finals series. :noway:

Such a treat to watch. This guy is an allstar caliber glue guy. Those entry pass he makes on Biid was money tonight against the Hawks. Creates mismatch that forces Hayward on Ben. Then punishes Pistons defense by punishing Drummond whenever they sag to the paint.

His assist to TO ratio and ability to anchor the defense without Biid also have been huge.

+26 against the Wolves

Al has been big for us. Need to slowly find replacement to prepare for his decline. Hey, bigs are easy to find.

Horford replacing Saric has been impressive. Embiid with a rim protecting stretch 4 is a great fit.

It would be nice to get John Collins or another promising young prospect. I was hoping Bolden could fill that role, but he has been disappointing so far.

I really underestimated the value of having an elite glue guy like Horford. Doesn't need the ball a lot, willing to make the extra pass, always in the right spot, plays good D. Outside of his age, he's a perfect fit but I'm happy to have him for as long as we can.

Horford defended KAT. Man.. all kind of mismatches happened. Biid was defended by Roco, Wiggins and some guards.

Horford also abused his way whenever Roco or Wiggins defended him.

It's still surreal to see Horford on the Sixers. He's the kind of opponent you kind of have to dislike because he does everything so well. So nice to to see him alongside Jo.

I was a big fan of Butler, and Redick, but Richardson, Horford, and Thybulle have come in as new players and really improved us.

O’Quinn is better than our backup was last year, Horford is a beast.

Horford has been exactly the guy that we all appreciated for years. Good shot to great shot, make the extra pass.

I seriously still hate his contract, but getting a vet with his gravitas in here has really helped.

When we used to argue about somehow fitting Noel or Okafor next to Embiid. Lol

I admit. I thought we could make them fit.

Horford fits next to him perfectly, and on top of that, he can cover for him when he isn’t in the lineup.

Still think Noel/Embiid could have worked for stretches. Horford is obviously a much better fit/player though.

The issue with Okafor wasn't that it was a bad fit it was that Okafor was really bad at basketball.

What pisses me off is that we never even got a chance to see if it would have worked with Noel.

Im not optimistic that it will work.

Noel, if you can remember, prefers to sag off the paint and get his blocks. If ever, Okafor is a better fit because he’s a better individual defender (dfg%) who can leave the rim protection to Embiid. And Okafor has better ball control, Noel and Embiid will be a nightmare on TOs. Okafor can also punish opponents PF unlike Noel (that fits to the current direction of our team) and is a better perimeter shooter than Noel will ever be.

I mean, between Okafor and Noel, Okafor is closer to Horford than Noel. But who cares, they’ll never be as good as a fit than Horford.
