Who's on the comedy Mount Rushmore? Dave is in the conversation but, man, it's a hot competition. If you were to go with just everybody's first two specials, I think Dave would be an EASY #1.

I think Chappelle, Carlin, Pryor, and Eddie Murphy in no particular order. I understand the list is subjective but I'm guessing those four would at least be in every comedy fan's top-10. I also really like Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Anthony Jeselnik, Jo Koy, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, John Mulaney, and Hannibal Burress. At one time Chris Rock, Katt Williams, and Martin Lawrence were up there too. But they've combined for some awful specials recently.

Pryor and Carlin are probably the only two "locks" I can think of that would be on everybody's list.

Lenny Bruce would sit on top of Mount Rushmore.

That's how I feel about Dave since he came back. His two last year sucked too.

I have not watched the new Chappelle hour so my opinion is based on his last couple on Netflix but I feel it's some of the best comedy and social commentary out there.

As far as comedy Mt. Rushmore, ranking comedians doesn't work for me because they all worked at times when the collective consciousness was at an different evolutionary spot on the continuum so it's hard for me to grade them. But if I had to pick 4 like Rushmore I would choose Pryor, Chapelle, Murphy, and Carlin. But there are like 10 more that could be up there as well.

Aziz's last special was thought provoking. Hannah Gadsby had another great one. Kaufman was groundbreaking. Lenny Bruce deftly represented the voice of the counter culture in the 60s. Also, Bill Hicks, Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Amy Schumer, Mitch Hedberg. Those are just some I've enjoyed and not meant to be all encompassing.

Basically anyone that puts their vulnerability out there on display and can make you laugh gets a nod from me. I can't imagine an experience that could be more lonely, connected, and exhilarating all at once. Good comedy makes you laugh. Great comedy makes you laugh and feel uncomfortable about why you're laughing.

Steve Martin can tell a joke and get a laugh after every word.

Funnier when Sarah Silverman tells it but she had this story about him:

"Sarah also talked about her admiration for comedy icon Steve Martin, whom she recently spent time with after the American Film Institute’s tribute to Diane Keaton. Steve invited a who’s who of Hollywood A-listers back to his home following the ceremony, including “Murphy Brown” actress and frequent “Saturday Night Live” host Candice Bergen. After Martin Short asked Candice to tell the group how she first met Steve, she shared one of her earliest memories of him was how he used to not know what prosciutto was.

“And then Steve, right then, goes, ‘Can you believe it? And now I drive one!’” Sarah recalled. “It was so in the moment, organic. You could spend 10 years trying to write a joke that perfect.”

I can just hear him saying it and I'm laughing. Classic Steve Martin.

edit: Oh, here it is! Roughly 3:25 in.

Norm is amazing and has some great bits but I honestly think talk show guest is his ideal forum.

Where does Jeff Ross fit? He's at his best roasting people, but I don't think there have been many comedians who've made me laugh harder than him.

I really enjoyed this as much as their episode of Comedians in Cars. I was as shocked as Eddie that Seinfeld had Bernie Mac as his GOAT. I mean, I love Bernie but...the best?

F*** Marc Davis, f*** Tim Donaghy and f*** David Stern as a staff, record label and as a mothaf**kin crew......and if you wanna be down with Stern then F*** YOU TOO!!! Stu Jackson f*** you too.....all you mothaf**kas F*** YOU TOO!!!!
