Right. What I said before, when he's hot: Hibachimura.

Pumped for FIBA. I'm interested to see Rui battle some adversity.

Very encouraging %ges, and 3pt%.... although, is the FIBA line closer like the college line?

In any case, representing his country as a 21 year old and the 'star player' on his squad comes with pressure, and he's shooting that well despite it. Solid stuff.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

They talking about him on the GB. So he must be at least decent. Waiting to see him play against U.S. in Fiba.

I'm watching the game. Japan is totally out of it and Turkey is knocking down everything. Rui was able to draw fouls on two straight shots and knock down all 4 ft's to end the 1st quarter. But Turkey isn't missing.

Nice set of plays to end the half. Hopefully that gets Rui going.

Well, Japan has settled down in the 2nd quarter. Rui attacked the hoop twice in the last minute and a half and had a dunk and a layup. The main thing with Rui is that he's just so much stronger than Osman and Illaysova. It really is noticeable. Rui is built like a tank. Also, Turkey is really trying to take Rui away. One switches where Rui gets the smaller defender on him, Turkey has 2 additional defenders helping. The attention that they are giving to Rui is translating to open 3's for Rui.

Japan really struggles to get the ball to Rui.

I think what we are seeing is that because Rui's ball handling is not good, he's limited if his teammates can't get him the ball.

All in all a devastating loss for Japan given that America is also in their group.

Japans guard-play has been awful. They’re all quick but too small/frail to get any separation or get into the paint.

And Rui is rarely covered by just 1 defender, they’re shading over a second guy every time. Someone else has to do something.

Japan has a pair of big and athletic forwards in Hachimura/Watanabe that a lot of teams would struggle to match up with, their coach really needs to be running the entire offense through them. If they’re going to be a relevant basketball nation moving forward , it’s because those two are the future.

The problem is in FIBA ball there’s no rule against 3sec in the paint so spacing is extremely clogged. Turkey just parked a couple big dudes in the lane and it was easy for them to send help on Rui’s drives or deny him on the catch, especially since Japan’s guards apparently struggle to make simple entry passes.

If Japan had some players who were offensive threats on the weakside it would give them proper spacing for Rui to drive, but it was way too clogged for him to get from the 3pt line into the paint. He doesn’t have that kind of handle to criss cross through a defense.

Their coach should look at DHO plays for Rui (and Watanabe also) to get the ball on the move slashing towards the rim.

Why are you looking for a fight my guy? You're really going to force me to defend PIF?
