Baynes is going to be such a fan favorite next year.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

He eats so much space on the court, his wide and strong body protects the paint pretty well.

And this has been said before, but he is one of the best screeners in the entire league. A nice intangible for a big man.

That next to his great motor and his decent 3P makes him a solid upgrade as a backup C over Holmes.

I always liked Baynes and I was happy we got him.
He can defend, shoot, rebound, fight and hides from nobody.
He is in great shape now, leaner than ever he was, but still strong.
When Ayton sits we have a more than capable back up center.

I'd take that bet.

Only way he wins it is if he is on the team at the end of the season, only way he stays on the team that long is if the Suns are still in the playoff hunt in Feb.

Not so fast. Oubre is a very scrappy player, so is Mikal. And don't forget we added Javon Carter who is a bulldog at pg. Even Ricky Rubio is a hustler on D. Any of those guys could get that award.

This is going to be a very different team to watch this year. Other teams will hate playing us even if they beat us. They will go home with bruises.

Baynes - 21/5/2, 5/6 from 3, 3 charges taken

Gobert - 8/4/6 with 2 blocks, fouled out

Congratulations guys, you just got a new franchise player.

1. Don't expect Baynes to put such numbers in NBA game regularly

2. Better to have a logjam at C than SF position (though Baynes is a 1yr rental that only can help Ayton greatly)

Mmmh...

Just to point it out:

Aron would be entirely capable of putting those numbers at NBA provided he plays in his team similar role he plays with Boomers.

He won't play it.

So yeah, I don't expect him to do so either.

Not sure why not. Ayton could play some pf and give Baynes some more time at C. Is Saric playing FIBA?

Baynes can not put those numbers in the NBA on a regular basis. He does not have the skills to score that much game in and game out. That is why he never did it during the seven years that he has been in the league.

It is an small sample size. Just FIVE games.

What I like about his performances is that he is showing that he is in great basketball shape and his 3p shooting is a bit improved.

Saric is not playing.

I think Baynes is showing more consistency in his 3 ball. Look at his stats in 2018-19 and his percentage started to increase. He has always been a reasonable shooter from the line and I just wonder whether he has genuinely improved his 3 point shot over time and now is getting more opportunities because of that. His Boston result was relatively low usage but you have to consider his previous years where he didn't shoot the 3 at all.

I think Baynes' shooting may surprise some. Not sure he has much scoring besides that but I think his role might be a little different to what many envisage. I also note he spends most of his time on the court with a Centre for Australia so nothing would shock me. I'd be very happy to have a big who can set screens when needed and is confident to hit a three. Has the possibility to create space especially if Ayton starts to develop his range (which is likely).

Baynes has added another dimension to his game in the three ball. It will completely change his effectiveness on offense because he can now set a pick and roll out to the three point line as well as to the basket. He will still be the back up center, but he is going to be much more effective going forward than in the past.

He also is just so physical on defense. He is one of those players who is much more physical than it looks, so he gets away with more. If Ayton can pick up a little of that, it would be huge.
