OT: ‘You’re not alone’: How Shayne Corson found hope in his battle with mental health

Off topic, but here's an interesting piece on ex-Leaf Shayne Corson on The Athletic. Figured I'd post it because it deals with an important topic, and things are still a bit slow at the moment.

It discusses his challenges with his father's passing and how that impacted his mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc during his hockey career, and how he's now been able to manage these things from seeking help from mental health professionals, and discussing his challenges openly/publicly.

It's amazing how a sequence of events in life can really turn things upside down. There's nothing wrong with admitting you need help to deal with it.

Glad to see he's doing better. I liked liked him on the leafs. I was a fan of hard-nosed, tough players like him, Roberts, domi, belak (rip), tucker etc.

I know this is going to sound controversial, but listening to Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson's podcasts together and listening to h Jordan Peterson's lectures in his youtube channel has really helped me out on my anxiety, depression, etc.

So for those who feel like they have mental health issues, I would suggest the above.

Peterson can dish it out, but he obviously can't take it either:

Truth Teller, Guru, Hypocrite?

Jordan Peterson dishes out what he sees as harsh truths, but can he take them in return? Critics see hypocrisy and even misogyny in his threats to sue them for defamation.

If you want to reduce anxiety - not feel so threatened or overreact to perceived threats - then Jordan Peterson seems like the last guy you should be listening to for advice.

To each their own for who they go to, and what they turn to, to try and deal with their own mental health. I personally work in mental health, and read through some of the article you posted, do not have time to read the whole thing. Even that article mentions some of Jordan Peterson's ideas are good ones.

They key is think critically about what you read, draw out of it what helps you, but do not let everything someone says define your approach without considering your own values. I.e. Peterson does have some strong sentiments that I think can be dangerous, and it can rally some dangerous groups which I think he could do a better job of distancing himself from, but he gets attention from them, and attention sells books. I definitely do not agree with everything he says, but he also has a lot of interesting and helpful stuff to promote as well.

Check your inbox.
Don't feel shy to inbox me guys. This is the type of thing that people need to see. I lost one of my best friends to suicide and it will never stop tormenting me that I could have done better by him.

That article is so garbage, probably written by a modern day feminist. It misconstrues alot of JPs point. For example the "Women being more agreeable" being put in a way to make him seem like a misogynist when in all reality that statement is backed by science.

Anyways there are tons and tons of people who've felt JP has significantly changed their lives. Dont let the liberal media who calls him an alt right speaker, even though white supremacists despise him, shape your mind on him.

Alt-right isn't just about white-supremacy but also about viscerally hating the SJW movement (though not totally. I disagree with SJWs on a lot of fronts, as many Muslims do). Blaming SJW-regression on 'post-modern neo-Marxists' (a bit of a misnomer, if not a wildly ridiculous phrase that could use a series of lectures on it itself) is pretty close to blaming 'cultural Marxism' for society's 'degeneracy', a white nationalist ploy that has been employed for decades.

He's not a neo-Nazi but his rhetoric overlaps in some key ways.

What are you going on about?

Jordan Peterson has laid out a framework that has helped many people get their lives back on track, and that's what Hero_Panda was referring to.

You posted an article criticizing him because he sued for defamation (which somehow in the writers mind equals restricting free speech).

These two are not the same and have no bearing on each other.
