Rapsody is very Lauryn Hill sounding - like her album. Some are a little different for me like Malibu Ken and Billy Woods but your first 5 are all nice.

If you appreciate lyricism, Ras Kass, Soul on Ice 2 was just released and is definitely worth a full listen.. I may be biased because the original Soul on Ice from 1996 is top 3 all time hip hop album in my books. For a sample I’d recommend starting with silver anniversary, shark week, gingivitis, ghosted. There are some pretty big features (considering his relative unknown status) but I find the features are usually outshined by Ras and end up prefering the solo tracks.

I dont know how to explain it

It's like his songs are over...saturated

His vocals sound echoey and autotuned, there is always a background ethereal sound/wind noise playing until a short verse drops and it goes silent for a little, he's got his own backup vocals after every other line almost

Sure it's catchy and ya the lyrics in the hooks and verse can stick with you or you can belt them along

And the concepts behind the song have a clear idea or image which is good,

But my ears/brain get a bit tired of the overproduction after a chunk of songs

Yeah Aesop Rock (Malibu Ken) and Billy Woods are definitely the most abstract of the bunch. Personally I got such a weird love for Billy Woods. His “Known Unknowns” album was so good imo and there are times where his flow and lyrics are just filthy. Try listening to Fall Back by him or Crocodile Tears. If you don’t like those then he’s definitely just not for you

I have had my share of disagreements with YogurtProducer, but on this point, I agree 100%.. As a pure 80s-90s Hip-Hop/R&B/House head with a very large vinyl collection that has taken a lifetime to curate, I agree the Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's "Bandana" is significant piece of work. I have also enjoyed both of Anderson Paak's efforts on "Oxnard" and "Ventura". The Little Brother album was nice, but it is no "Listening" or "Minstrel Show," maybe my expectations were too high for their return... Haven't had a chance to really listen to the Rapsody album, but I have heard good things. Not a huge Tyler the Creator fan and everyone else is off my radar cause frankly, I'm just old with other responsibilities that I can't stay up on everything.

Avantdale Bowling Club and the two solo Black Thought projects are 3 other albums from the last year or so I think old heads could really get behind

The new Tyler is superb. It’s pushing into more experimental territory so it isn’t really for everyone, but it’s a huge improvement over his old crap
