Australia did choke away the lead with 5 min to go, but in the end, I’m not sure they were more talented than Spain. Marc came up with a vintage performance, and an NBA champ surrounded by NBA and ACB players is a tough match-up for anybody.

The fact US and Canadian players are not begging to go earn millions for FIBA over in China says more about the value and prestige of your tourney than it does about their "braveness", "patriotism", "loyalty", or whatever BS you care to associate with participating in your inconsequential little tourney.

Hit a sore point did I?? For all your country's patriotism, you'd think players would love representing the USA. It's not brave to play basketball at a World Cup, but it does show patriotism and pride. Brave is serving your country either in the Forces or emergency services.

It's so inconsequential that your on this board defending your country's poor showing and making excuses. When you get called out on it, all of a sudden no one cares

Don't send anyone, I couldn't care less. One less team to beat and one less group of fans making excuses

Also, the US A-team can lose. Remember 2004? Ouch.

The US is brilliant at basketball, but not unbeatable. And I’m not sure if any of the defenders or apologists have realised this, but the rest of the world is closing the gap. No team at FIBAWC had the individual talent that the US showed up with, but other teams have been playing better basketball.

2004 wasn't the US "A" team, but I have no problem conceding that the rest of the world is constantly closing the gap.

However, some seem to think this tourney proves that the gap has already been closed - which is something even a loss by the "A" team wouldn't be sufficient to demonstrate. Albeit back to back losses like this team has suffered might do the trick.

Technically there was no "World Cup" of basketball before 2014.

FIBA renamed their World Championship tourney to try to steal some of the fame of the FIFA tourney, but then rescheduled it a year later so they wouldn't have to compete with it - choosing instead to lose players from their tournament who can't justify the additional load of playing in back to back years.

You claim you don´t give a **** about this 'lesser' Championship but frankly, you seem to be obsessed by it...May the rest of us enjoy the semis in peace? They have turned out to be even more interesting without US/Serbia!

Enjoy a way, just stop spewing nonsense, or I'll keep replying to it. Like I suggested to Pipp33, you guys are free to review my posting history if you think I'm obsessed with this tournament, think I care about it more than I let on, or somehow changed my tune only after team USA lost.

So proud of our team! I hope this time we get it against Spain, which is like a black beast for us.

I remember 2002 finals when we were robbed against Yugoslavia.

The NBA game changed with the rule changes. FIBA is behind the times.

With FIBA rules, then Team USA would like to get someone like DAJ in the pivot. Old guys get to play again.

The game is just different. In the NBA even guards and wings can thrive without being able to shoot, like Giannis and Simmons. In international play that's almost impossible, unless you're getting fast break buckets at will.

First, let me say this, I like ARG's style of ball and think they'll beat ESP. They seem to have it all on offense. However, I hope ESP plays all out for 40 mins and keep it a close contest. They may have a shot to win the gold.

For ARG, the only names I recognize are Scola and Manu as spectator.

The rule differences make it a different game, so I was just checking what Kobe had to say about it. Kobe played more FIBA type ball. Is it F-eye-ba or F-ee-ba?

Its Fee-ba. F-eye-ba

Dont forget name Facundo Campazzo, he is Patrick Beverley level perimeter defender and his offense speaks for itself in this tournament.

what is the all thing that you can win and are you sure the australian players arent the ones who have won it?

if the all is eurobasket then yes australia have nobody who have won it but if its nba titles the aussies have won it all

Fiba tournaments, semis, finals, or Euroleague titles than those players were key men. It’s different to be role player in Nba, even in winning team or you was the man even though in lesser competition. It looked to me that Australians mostly disappeared in crucial moments. Mills was last and only man standing in last 5 minutes in Q4 and overtime. Ingles the biggest disappointment.

you're right, delly disappeared when he was taken out of the game by coach idiot with 5 minutes to go and spain went on a 7-2 run in the next 80 seconds to cut the lead to 2pts

they were fairly in control of the game before the sub so there is no need to show off what a great coach you are because you are able to do it with nbl players

the only thing that disapeared was coach lemanis brain a long time ago

After crying in a corner most the night.

Gasol put a monster preformance on. Dominated on the defensive side. Posted up when needed. Got open 3's

Preformance of the tournament. Well done Spain

Shattered for our guys. Just lacked another FIBA quality guard.

Man this game has become so weird. You have guys like Janis, Jokic and Kemba dominating in the NBA and yet are completely nonexisting in FIBA and yet there are guys like Scola and Rubio who suck in NBA and are dominating in FIBA.

Blah...can't wait for this nonsense to end and for the real basketball to begin.

Rubio does everything the same if not better in the NBA what he did today. If you have nothing to contribute, why post at all?

In contrast to the 'we don't care' narrative for USA players :

This nonsense is real basketball, and a squad who earns like 200 million dollars per year got owned.

Scola didn't suck in the NBA, did you start watching in 2015 or something? I guess Tim Duncan sucked too. And Kobe was straight up trash

I'll never understand how Rubio never really panned out in the NBA. He was arguably as prodigious as Doncic as a teenager, yet he never emerged as an elite player at the NBA level.

I thought Rubio was going to be a point god.

Scola did not suck in the NBA... he was one of the top power forwards in the NBA during his prime and averaged like 18 and 8 in his prime.

Aus defence was solid, too bad the scouting report for Llull got soaked with beer and was unreadable. Killed opponent morale with that end of quarter 3s(signature move!) or wide open ones in OT.

Overall in my standpoint it is great to have atleast one EU team make it in, it will be somehow so wrong to root against ARG. Dilemma.
Luka Doncic life matters too. No to racism!

Scolas game is just a beauty to watch. That guy has incredible fundamentals. Schooling Gobert like that, at 39 years, I mean that is something else. He is still absolutely leathal in the p&r. I remember him on the Rockets basically 10 years ago. He always had that amazing footwork and the classic old mans game.

There is something that I need someone else with more basketball knowledge explain to me. How is it possible that a 39 year old big man with below average athleticism is still able to play at least decent defense? We see so many big man in the NBA, with much more potential when it comes to athletic ability absolutely fold when it comes to that. How is that even possible? Especially against a very good frontcourt?
