Best Potential that never reached it
Who are some players you think would have been better if they reached it.
I find more times than not it's just effort, heart or injury that prevents guys from reaching their potential
Like for me JR Smith with Kobe's mentality would have been an All-star for sure.
who do you got?

Reaching your potential is a mental thing.
Dwight, Melo, Beasley, Wiggins are a few names that come to mind

Derrick Coleman.
Chris Webber-level should have been his floor.

Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

It's got to be Shaq. Nobody had his physical talent as a big man but he never had the desire to be the
best player he could have been but I suppose 80% is still better than all but Kareem or perhaps Hakeem.

sidney wicks.
for me, a lot of threads like this come down the biggest disappointment in my basketball watching life. he was on the road to true greatness. he's the holy ghost @ucla. he was lebron before lebron. he carried two ncaa banners which was a rare thing for a pf back then.
he led the blazers in ppg, apg, and rpg at different points in his career there. the story i'm told is he couldn't get along. he had to be THE man.
but he had the chops and pro stats to back up extrapolating that he never reached his potential, and his stats worsened every succeeding year - but his talent was real and undeniable.
smh

Re: Best Potential that never reached it
It really makes no sense that Stockton + Malone didn't translate to multiple championships, so I'll say Stockton should have shot more. He was a great scorer from everywhere. Stop passing to Greg Ostertag so much, my dude. Also, 36 year old Magic Johnson was a pretty good power forward. Reagan and other world leaders intentionally spread the HIV virus, in doing nothing. His prime got cut off like Muhammad Ali. Also also, the Soviet Union overworked Arvydas.
