Next team to win their first championship?

Post#1 » by Tim Reynolds » Sun Sep 15, 2019 10:16 am

Simple question: Which team is going to be the next Toronto Raptors?

My personal choice are the Denver Nuggets; just had their first playoff run with this young core and it went well for them. I could see them winning next year(though I wouldn't expect it), and they are poised to be very very good for quite some time.

My apologies to Suns and Hornets fans, but this poll only has a 10-man roster, and cuts had to be made.

I think the Nuggets winning in 2020 would be a fun story - outside of Houston, obviously - but I had to vote Clippers. Their roster is pretty stacked and they check the coaching and ownership boxes.

It is probably going to be Utah. They've been very close before and they're rising again. They're kind of like the poor man's Spurs. But it may not happen for another 7-10 years.

The Clippers will never win a championship.

Clippers. They have Kawhi "Superteam Destroyer" Leonard.

the Celtics. Oh wait, I thought you said, which team will be next to win it's 18th championship - just kidding, (as I put on my flame-proof jacket).

Seriously, though, I voted for the Clippers. I really think this is their year to finally take it all the way.

Clippers is the most obvious choice here
- 2 mvp level players plus a bunch of good role players

Next team to win their first championship?

I'd love to vote Denver and I believe we have a chance, but I'd be a fool to vote against the Clippers team - at this time, ask again next year.

If this would have been asked 8-9 years ago, the Thunder would have won in a landslide...like 80-90% of the votes.

Clippers are the most likely. I'd be shocked if they don't win it

Clippers have the most realistic shot, but I wouldn't count out the Nets until I've seen how that works out throughout the first half of the season.

Denver is the most overrated team this season. There is no way they will ever be a serious contender with this team.

But aren't the Clippers sort of a superteam? Does that mean Kawhi will self-destruct his own team?

Nets. Their front office has been competent and will probably be there for years to come. Big market teams should have an edge due to their atractiveness to free agents. Clippers are close 2nd, but it's just two teams in NY vs. 4 teams in California, so probably Nets.
