I’m not sure lack of desire or competitiveness counts. Those characteristics are as much about potential as vert.

For me I would put:

1) Bill Walton
2) Greg Oden
3) Len Bias
4) Ricky Barry

On the topic of the question, we're left with athletics vs IQ. There are some insane athletes who are just well stupid. Those guys would never get there. Others injuries hurt them. But then there are those who just didn't give a crap and I think they're the story.

Keith Van Horn comes to mind...honestly I think he just wanted a family and didn't care about basketball. I'm sure there are others but it's more the to me a question of smart players who didnt' get hurt who didn't live up to it because....well they didn't care.
